Didn't see that coming at all....

I came down to fl. This weekend to visit my mother. At the last minute, I decided to fly. (honestly I was looking forward to some quiet driving time by myself)

Anyway, got here Friday and did my usual...that is a huge do list my mother had waiting for me....lol.

She had a prius for a couple of years as a daily driver. (she keeps a lexus sc430 as her weekend car)

Eventually she traded the prius in for a hybrid toyota camry. She's had it for just shy of a year and has decided it's too big.

Guess what she test drove?

That's right brothers and sisters, I've been preaching the graces of the almighty mini and her soul took ahold...lol.

We took a 2010 pepper white with black roof for a drive non s.

She loved it. So after I taught the salesman everything he should know (lol, he was pretty knowledgeable about his product actually)

So I took her home and online to show her the mini configurator.

What started out for a justacooper for 19K ended up at 30K....lol.

Id like to find her a barely used Cooper since there's a lot of great deals out there but with her nav, Sirius and the such needs, I don't see that happening.

So I guess we can add another mini member to the family.

Weird how things work... Never saw my mother as a mini person (though she had one when she lived in England)

That's funny as hell because my over 70 (shhhhh, toy didn't hear me mention anything about her age...lol) asked me BEFORE we even left the parking lot if she could get chrome rims...lololol.

I told her...we'll see...perhaps a set of black rims with a polished lip would look better.

Great story oc! So is this a case of 'like mother, like son', or the other way around? Hope you and Mom have a fun time Motoring together!

I still regret waiting untiil after my mom was gone to get my MINI (not intentional; just worked out that way) 'cuz I think she would have liked it. She loved going for drives and even at 85 years old, knew her way around on the all the backroads. If not for some of her other 'traits', we might have made a great Motoring team...

I told my mom about "mini takes the states" and all the different clubs and drives. I doubt she'd do any of them but told her people who own minis are a group of their own and if she participates, she probably actually enjoy driving her mini all over the place.

EDIT: Sorry guys, this really should have been in 2nd generation. I didn't notice I opened the wrong section.

OC, I can't wait to see Mama OC motoring the dragon next year.

My Mom (also over 70) was visiting and we stopped by the local MINI dealer...she wanted one but was afraid to go from the Lincoln Townhouse. She's from the "That's a good heavy car" generation. :impatient:

I hope your mother enjoys the heck out of it...

My mum used to race her daddy's chrysler against the boys down around Cohasset. I once took her out in a friend's Ferrari 308 GTB on the local back road that has a half mile straight stretch in it, and went from 0-100-0 as fast as that thing would go. She loved it.

When I bought the Works Cooper, even though we were estranged at the time, I did the same thing in the same place. She noted that the Ferrari was faster, but appreciated the rush just the same.

She died last October, and I am so grateful for the memories.

Glad you have a mother who is willing to go with new ideas, hope she enjoys her MINI, $11,000 worth of options will be one tricked out car.

I agree... I think for 11K worth of add-ons, I could buy a slightly used S.

For the most part, people that buy a justacooper are looking for the mini experience without paying too much.... I think the odds of finding a used justa with nav, leather, sirius are kinda slim.

Plus, she wants the JCW ground effects. Other than the single exhaust, I'm not sure it'll fit.

I'm looking... found one yesterday, gonna check it out today.

My mom just turned 100 and she loves riding in the MINI. It's easy for her to get in and out. I had a truck before and I had to lift her into it. When I got the MINI she said "Why didn't you get one of these before?" Her friends at the assisted living place also like it and when I visit they come out to see it.

Ha...ha. Cool story. Hope she enjoys it in good health!

MCS Fever Jul 6, 2010 08:44 AM

Better watch the Italian Job remake with her - since it's a requirement for ownership....... Just don't tell her they wrecked 16 new MINI's to make that movie (only 3 new MINI's in the movie - guess all that jumping takes a toll).
