I'm picking up my MINI tomorrow

Nothing like a great start to a 4-day holiday weekend. I get to pick up my MINI tomorrow at lunch. On the way back to work I get about a 10-15 min trip on the Autobahn. Should be a good end to a rough work week.

Welcome to the forum, ah the autobahn, have a good fast run for the rest of us.

Have fun!

I need to move to Germany.

alex.rhodes Jul 2, 2010 10:35 PM

I started the car, rolled it outside the MINI/BMW dealership and it said 3mi/5km on the clock. Must admit I had trouble keeping the revs down on the way home. The MA said to make sure to vary the speed for the first 1200mi or so.... and I did.... I drove vary fast on the autobahn. Only negatives I've found so far is there was no ipod cable even though I had the ipod prep package thing. That and I worked till almost midnight last night and didn't get to drive.

Alex, 1st off, CONGRATS!!!

Second, look in you manual, there is a specific break in specified and I think it is keep the revs UNDER 4k rpm. Vary speed and RPM but for 1200miles try to keep it below 4k.
Did you pick it up in Mannheim or Heidelberg?
David

Forgot to mention, Military sales don't get the free Ipod cable... We have to buy it...

alex.rhodes Jul 3, 2010 04:42 AM

50 Euros for an Ipod cable.... that's about what $70 with the exchange rate, stupid German traffic laws. I picked it up at the Heidelberg dealership and we got to know each other on the 656 and 6 on the way back home. I like the two lane S-curve where they merge, started in 4th and shifted up through 6th.... keeping it under 4k on the revs.

time to change your signature pic!!!

alex.rhodes Jul 3, 2010 10:16 AM

got the sig done, guess now I need to think about mods.

Helix FMIC, Drop in filter, RMW tune, Exhaust.. :)

Got my Mayfair from Military car sales also. My salesman told me about the Ipod cable ahead of time thank God. I got it on eBay for $18 and had it before the car was delivered. Also I found out they do not deliver the car with a full tank of gas. I had to head straight to the gas station. And the 225 Euro for the Nav disc was a shocker but it was all worth it for the trip to Paris. The MINI is so much fun on the Autobahn. I am just afraid to go back to the US where there are speed limits LOL.

Treehugginggirl - Did you get yours from Heidelberg and is it auto? If so, I have driven your car and I loved it. I know what you mean about being afraid to go back to the States and dealing with the speed limit there.

David - Does an air filter really do that much for the car? Do you still have the air filter you PM'd me about earlier? What about suspension bits. I've noticed the car rocks back and forth a bit with the gas and brake.

Sorry the intake was sold (via Stars and Stripes) to a lady in Baumholder. As for modifying the intake... Keep the stock box and use a drop in filter like K&N or the alta or something of the equivalent as it will save you money in the long run on the replacement cost of the non cleanable stocker. I did a dynolicious run with the alta drop in and the alta cai after my tune and saw no benefit of the CAI as alta advertised. It did sound bad ass though with the BOV and boost wooosh sound. But driving 100+ miles a day it gets on your nerves..

Suspension, I will be installing my TSW springs Tuesday (training holiday baby!!) I will let you know how it does. If you are interested in seeing it being done or ever need any help, shoot me a call 0163 185 2858 on Tues. Heading to Ramstein for shopping today.

Alex- Got my MINI in Ramstein and I special ordered it, it is a 6 speed manual. But it does drive awsome. Love the Motoring experience.

alex.rhodes Jul 4, 2010 05:02 AM

I wish I had a training holiday on Tues. I have to play catch up for Tues afternoon, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, all of which were over 12 hour days. Do any of us MINI folk ever get together for a motor, here in Germany?

david in germany Jul 4, 2010 08:37 AM

Mil or Civ? I am a civilian but I am taking the day leave. :)

alex.rhodes Jul 4, 2010 09:02 AM

Mil. We have a training holiday but I have to play catch up so I can't afford to take the day off.
