Used 2008 MINI Cooper decision

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forums but I have been reading the posts for some time now. Last week I was about to jump on a MINI Cooper S when someone else took that dream out from under me. Now this week I have my eyes on a used 2008 Mini Cooper with 27,000 miles with a manual tranny. It also appears it has the sport package. My question is in regards to the reliability of these cars for the recent models 2008+.

I really would like to have a MINI but I see a lot of posts and information regarding issues people have with even just new MINIs. Currently I don't need another car but I'm looking for the right signs to jump on this MINI like a dog in heat.

Also, what's the life of the stick shift on these cars as far as maintenance goes?

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice as I'm trying to make this decision.

I bought a used 2008 in November after my 2006 got murdered by a pickup who ran a stop sign.

I am absolutely in love with my new MINI. I also have the manual transmission and find it to be much improved from the 2006 model. Currently at about 27k miles and I have had no reliability issues with anything. Car is running great.

If this MINI is in good condition from the previous owner, there should be nothing stopping you from jumping all over it. MINI's are so incredibly fun and I wouldn't give mine up for the world!

If you have any more specific questions I'd be happy to try to answer them.

I got a used manual 2008 MCS with 8k miles on it.
No problems at all whatsoever. I love it.

Just have any used car checked out by a mechanic for a "pre-sale inspection" to ensure there's nothing wrong with it, along with a full Carfax report.

My 2008 is great and if you like this one and it clears the inspection, go for it.

The 2008 should still have a maintenance program on it...so would a MINI dealership be willing to inspect it?

Let's Motor!

Hey Guys!

After today I'm super tired so I'm going to make this pretty short. Basically I had breakfast this morning chatting with my dad about the cooper and we got down the road when we got a phone call from the dealership. The salesman at the Chevy dealership that was selling the cooper told us that we shouldn't come up because the MINI (which he said was on hold) was being looked at by another customer. So we (in a VERY bad mood) drove back home and got another phone call that the lady had bought the MINI. So my dad and I were fit to be tied at that point so we took 15 mins to cool off and my dad mentioned to go to the MINI dealership and kick tires.

Well tires we kicked as I'm now the proud owner of a 2009 MINI Cooper in Astro black. I have to say that while I wish I could have gotten the red 2008 at the chevy dealership, I'm SOOOO glad we didn't get that deal. I dunno if I can mention names but the MINI dealership and the salesman were top notch. I did end up spending more on this car than the one I missed but it's practically brand new along with several cool upgrades.

All in all today has been a very exhausting day and I'm still waiting for someone to pinch me.

I still can't believe that I actually have the car....although today was a bad day for the car. It must just be a bad week for me because I had to go to a clinic Sunday and then today I was cruising in the left lane when this pickup truck has piles of dirt/gravel coming off from the bottom of the truck. It was like a part from a bad dream. I was able to miss most of the first batch and then more came off so I swerved into the left shoulder to miss the rest and put the pedal to the metal. When I arrived at work I was fairly happy to see that the points of contact happened on the 3M that was already on the car and the damage seems to be minimal if any at all. Thank goodness.

Someone asked about the options:
-Resistall package
-Xenon lights
-Sport seats
-runflats (guess that's okay lol)
-rain sensitive wipers
-3M clear bra on front (that already proved itself useful)
-automatic with paddle shifters
....I think that's it.
