I am just about to purchase my first mini. The deposit is down and I am waiting for it to be delivered. I had to make a couple of comprimises on the car because they didn't have exactly what I wanted in stock and I would have missed the latest deal if I had waited a few more weeks.

I wanted a white roof and mirrors but the only option was a red mini with the black roof and mirrors. As a Brit living in America, I just have to have the union jack roof. If I order the roof through mini itself, there is an inch gap around the edge and the black will show. Is this going to look silly? I am also considering having the black stripes on the bonnet.

My other option is to buy the union jack from cooperflags because it covers the whole roof and there isn't a gap. The only problem with that is that the red colour in the flag looks pinker than the chilli red. If anyone has any ideas or comments about how the flag will look on the black roof, please let me know.

Have you seen it in person? I wonder if you speak to them if they could adjust the color for you? I assume they print those to order.

Regardless, I'd definitely get the one that covers the roof. Or get a grey union jack.

I don't like the looks of the roof decal from MINI, it looks unfinished in my opinion.

I agree with ron-s mini, black jack would look really good.

Sarahshoes: I don't know where you live but if you are in a larger city you probably have a graphics shop that can print and install any graphic on your roof. Most shops can print anything that you have an electronic file and some only need a print. The advantage is they can print the image to any size and trim it after installation so it covers the entire roof. I think the premium 3M vinyl material is common in these shops so you don't have to worry about quality/longevity. Look in your local yellow pages and perhaps you can find a solution around the corner.

 

A gray Union Jack on a Chili Red MINI would be interesting. Of course you couldn't stop there. You'd have to... and...

No, I had not thought about until I saw your post--but the idea is growing on me.

If you do it, your Mini will be unique as I do not think I have ever seen a Mini with this combination.

It going to look great.

 

I'm still not sure what to do! I am going to pick it up on Saturday...v exciting!!! I have called a local graphics company and they can install which ever graphic I choose. I am going to get the full roof covering flag but will it be red, white, and blue or the black/silver....I need time to think!

 

Check with Mike at http://www.aestheticreations.net/index.htm. His stuff is top of the line and he will work with you on any type of color adjustment. My yellow dragon matches my car just fine.

Honestly, I wasn't sure at first, but when I saw the black jack covers on the red (pictured above) I think it might be very cool. I can't speak for any of the Cooper Flags stuff, but I have gotten several things from Mike at AC and it is very good.

Red, white, and blue on the other hand is classic for Minis. So, depends on the feeling you want to invoke. If you have it done at a local graphics place, they should be able to show you sample colors before printing. Aesthetic Creations is very good, but they are a small shop and busy. So, delivery times can be very long. Took them months to do some custom wheel center caps for me.

May be the St. George's cross would look good in red (the one in the middle of the flag). .. now I have more to think about. It is a fun dilemma to have though.
