Random plastic pull... anyone have one of these?

This thing was in my trunk when I first picked the car up. My MA had no clue what it was for.

I'm thinking it's an aux pull for either the gas tank or the rear hatch. It wasn't connected to anything, it was just sitting there.

Anyone found a part like this in their mini? Anyone know what it is supposed to go to?

I've had it lying around for 6 months now, I can't find what it goes to...

It's not to the Fuel Door that is just behind the Left Rear Seat if it were in the down position, I think, it could also be the Rear Hatch Release. Your thingy is not something I've seen...your MA had no cluse, what about a SA??

I wouldn't be doing 90-100mph, you car will certainly fall apart without that 'do-hickey', 'whatchyamacallit'!!

it actually looks exactly like my aux gas cap pull aside from the color. my gas cap pull is in the left rear side compartment where the hifi amp is.

weird... my gas cap pull is green and has a round flat end on it, not a rounded "pull"

it would make sense if this were for a tailgate aux pull, but I have no clue where it would go. I kinda remember lifting up my rear seats and looking for a spot, but finding nothing...

it would only make sense to have one, because the only way you'd need the aux gas pull is if your battery went... if your battery went, there's no way to get the tailgate open... if your rear seats are up, there's no way to put the seats down to access the gas pull.... well, you can lift up the little "boot cover" but that's pretty tough, not everyone would be able to do that...

This thing isn't very long though. the pull loop looks identical though.

the "rear deck lid" i guess it could be called... the thing that slides into the moldings in the boot, and connects to the hatch so it goes up and out of the way when you open the hatch...

The fuel door pull is behind the amp or if you don't have the HIFI is visible by pulling open the little side panel in the boot under the aux plug in. The rear boot hatch pull is under the rear seats.

i'm gonna rip my rear seats out tomorrow and see if i have that boot release pull, seems like that might be the culprit, but yours looks more like a cable, not the little 1 1/2 foot plastic thing that I have...

And for some reason, i think my fuel door thing is different then what oxy blue is saying. when I open the door hiding my hi-fi, i see a green pull tab, it's not something hidden under the amp or anything.

Maybe that's what this thing is for, and my dealer replaced it with the new fancy green pull tab, and forgot to throw away the old one?

i dunno.

i got impatient.

there's no boot-release pull under my seats, at all. there's nothing installed to manually open the trunk.

Quite honestly, this is one of the few things that really annoy me about this car.

The green pull tab opens the fuel door.

Mine is a 8/07 build and the picture is Robin Casady's MINI which is a 2007 also.I believe they changed the location of the boot hatch pull to under the passenger side rear panel by the speaker for 08 not sure but I'll figure it out.I just tried to pull the cable on mine a few minutes ago and it felt like my finger was gonna pull off before any hatch opened.

I am absolutely 100% positive that I do not have any sort of cable under the rear seats...

I have an 8/08 build.

I checked behind the panel on the passenger side as well, nothing.

this is bothering me.

Just found a UK spec photo and it has the cable as well.

Sounds like yours is either missing or in another location.

Back when I swapped out my rear speakers I don't remember seeing any pull cables under my rear seats and we just did the same to a friends car and there was no pull cable under his rear seat either. Both are 08 S's.

yea, i think they left it out of the 08's, which is stupid in my opinion... there's no way to get to the fuel release if you can't open the hatch.

I think i'm gonna rip out that back trim tomorrow and see if I can find a spot to hook this thing onto.

Saw this on a different thread. Look at the right rear passenger side sill.

Funny that the earlier picture in this thread is missing it too.

Have no idea what it is but good luck!

Actually, nevermind. It's Robin Casady's car and it looks like he relocated his boot pull temporarily while putting the Dynamat in. Sorry!
