Hood scoop grille removal + whistling

This is not a stock problem, so it is not in the Stock Problem Forum.

I recently removed my grille from the hood scoop. At speeds greater than 110mph on my favorite local race track, there is a whistling coming from the area of the hood scoop. While this is not a problem for daily driving, it is quite annoying on the straightways of my local race track.

I broke the front passenger-side screw on the hood scoop. Could this be the source of the whistle (it being loose, perhaps, at such great speeds)? Has anybody else had this problem? Maybe this is an excuse to buy a new scoop!

It could be the scoop hole. At 110 mph, thats a lot of breeze trying to fit in a small hole.

I had a windshield replaced last year. Every once in a while, at realistic freeway speeds, I get a loud whistle from the rubber trim. Really gets loud if the wind direction is about 45 degrees off my direction of travel.

I just grin and bear it, enough curves in my roads to make it go away quickly.

my guess is that its noise emanating from the turbo. At 110mph even in 6th gear the engine speed must be above 4500. The whistling is most likely engine noise, but if you are anything like me.... you know the difference between the whistling of the engine and an exterior part causing a noise.

If it is not engine noise, my second guess would be air passing between the windshield wipers. i have had this problem on another car.

cheers.
