R56 JCW GP, think there'll be one?

?

God, I hope not... I'll wind up trading my new '09 in early.

Please NO. I think one GeePee is enough for this world. There's something about that car that just grates on me (aesthetics? those wheels?), plus I think it's overpriced and underpowered.

I think MINI could come up with something better for R56 if they wish to go the specialty car route.

Bullitt44 Dec 30, 2008 09:47 AM

if that happens I would hate to see the tag on that.

My JCW is more than I wanted to pay for a MINI

Oxybluecoop Dec 30, 2008 10:04 AM

Doubt it

Ummmm, that speciality car should have been the JCW, but sadly, it wasn't/isn't.

Well, the current factory JCW Coupe pretty much matches the performance envelope of the GP (minus the standard JCW suspension) so a "special" would have to top that in a big way to be viable. Price is also a consideration, with even a lightly optioned JCW comparable to the GP's MSRP from 2006, how much higher could MINI go before people would just say no mas? On the other hand I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a cosmetic special JCW of some time midway through the R56 model run.

If people keep buying them they will make them

sequence Dec 31, 2008 09:59 AM

now that comp edition is truly nice; if the GeePee had even minimally approached this level of classiness I might've sprung for one, buddy!

thanks to this thread, I had a nightmare last night that my R56 had morphed into a GeePee. Very scary

jcap287 Dec 31, 2008 11:18 AM

Haha, to bad they can't put 230 hp/235lb tq or something, remove the back seats (leave off the bodykit) and keep it reasonably price that'd be a rediculous factory Mini haha

That's what I was going to say.

the r56 GP is called the Challenge car. it just happens to not be street legal.

bmbleB07 Dec 31, 2008 04:01 PM

here is a great option...but act fast sell ends today...

2008 mini cooper challenge car 4 sale on ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110329183390&ih=001&ca tegory=98064&_trksid=p4506.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI %26its%3DK%252BD%26otn%3D1%26ps%3D5

and still not street legal but you could add a catalytic converter to it i suppose...

LüDICRöüS Dec 31, 2008 04:10 PM

I'm sure the lack of a catalytic converter is not what is keeping it from being street legal.

willsblackmini08 Dec 31, 2008 04:21 PM

if i had 64k i would grab that challenge car in a heart beat. it's beautiful

bmbleB07 Dec 31, 2008 04:29 PM

i bet the reserve is lower than that...

Considering that the GP was created as a "last hurrah" for the R53, and that the 1st Gen hardtops were manufactured for 6 years, I suspect that if MINI does ever create an R56 GP, it won't be until the R56 model is "done". That probably won't be until the 2012 model year, I suspect. (just a hunch, I don't have any "secret info" to back that up)
