Fun snow pics :)
This is my Mini's first time playing in the snow! We had some decent snow last week but I had a loaner due to my Mini's window problem. I had to drive about 70 miles round trip in a snow storm today and actually enjoyed myself! I was quite impressed on how the car handled....so much in fact when I got back into town, I drove around my neighborhood on some unplowed side streets and parking lots to have some fun
(ignore all the dirty sludge on the front.....kids get dirty when they play, right?) http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b6...ky79/snow1.jpg The snow mound is bigger than Wrigley!!!! http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b6...ky79/snow5.jpg And this is what the plows left me when I came home today. Yeah, like I'm going to get this little bugger through that! http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b6...ky79/snow3.jpg |

Looks and sounds like those new snow tires are paying off jaxngrl!
Great pics! Mind if I add one to it? |
Portland is having it's biggest snow storm in 40 years. Not many snowplows here so I need to start digging after the next 4 inches of snow and ice tonight.

Snow tires?
|
Hey jhbjrpdx...I'm in E. Vancouver and we have 8" on the ground. Streets have been plowed and that's when we started to have issues. Molly however has not been out to play but twice since the Weekend before last. When she did come out to play she got mad and didn't want to go back in her room!! Steep Driveway and plowed streets make for an unhappy MINI and her MOMMY!! :) I'm hearing conflicitng reports on the additional accumulation we are expecting, I've heard as much as 8" MORE!!

Great pics! Mind if I add one to it? Nope, no snow tires! These are the all seasons that came with the car and I really like them so far! Keep the pics coming! |

RJKimbbell: We live in the clutches of the dread "east wind" so have big time drifts. The ones you can't see in the pix are twice as high. For the first time in 25 years I saw a snow plow truck up here today, but they don't come near the side streets. The chained up CRV got us out and about today. After a hour of snow shovel aerobics the drift in front of the Blue Dude is mostly gone, but I will need a whole bunch of melt to get it moving again. I just watched my neighbor try to get his Subaru out of the driveway. No chains. No joy. I actually have "tire socks" but will leave them in the bag for that "emergency" situation. The real solution to all this snow: another glass of brandy and another log on the fire.

I'm with you!!
I've got the Hubby talked into a set of Studded Tires for Ms. Molly. He wasn't to keen on them at firest until this hit. Any ideas on a good local Tire Dealer?? Brands?? I need all the help I can get...before he changes his mind!! |
RJ, I've read of New Englanders raving about these: http://www.nokiantires.com/tyre?id=1...akkapeliitta+R . Haven't tried 'em yet myself, but I think I'll go for 'em on my next set of snowies.

I have read alot of great comments on those, but when the weather gets as it has been, the "officials" are requiring chains. We drive from East Vancouver to NE & SW Portland (respectively), so when WA says Snow Tires are OK, OR is saying "Carry Chains" or "Chains are Required", I'd just like to not have to worry about chains all together with the low clearance my Baby Molly is supposed to have. It may be that I get some (Cheaper option) for this Winter and not worry about studded tires for now, but if we want to take a trip up to the mountain then I definetely want Studded Tires.

Looking at these just makes me cold!!! And glad I have seat warmers.

Did you happen to catch the clip on the evening news where a MINI nicely decorates a guard rail as it slides around a corner? Bet he was having loads of fun, thinking about how long the wait is for a new one...
Merry Christmas, everyone! Our MINI will head into Houston tomorrow to visit with two others--those of my daughter and son-in-law. Oh, and we'll be there, too. Hope the censor doesn't cut this, but I think it's funny. And appropriate for those in the Snow Belt: http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s...hristmas38.gif |
My car doesn't mind sitting in the snow, but I don't like driving in traffic.

Good thing I had my plastic trim removal tool to scrape the ice off. Guess I should invest in a real ice scraper thingamabob. Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

Around here, 3 snowflakes are enough to dismiss school. And we use credit cards as a snow/ice removal device. Usually works without even taking them out of our wallets, although we did have an ice storm last year where we really DID need 'em.
I used to give away snow scrapers with my pet store's name on them--not for windshields, but to scrape the you-know-what off bird cage bars. They were very popular, and that's all we'd need them for, anyway. We DO have a snow shovel, though--leftover from our St. Louis days. We use it as a giant dust pan. Totally confounds the neighbors! Hey--just saw these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CySmFGxU6Bk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgNh5JgG3SM&NR=1 Glad our MINIs weren't involved, or were they? This one's hysterical--just had to add it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2BRSZHRq2Q |
Chicago has had quite a bit of snow and ice over the last week. The combination of the two really made it hard to drive Once my street reached 6-7 inches of snow, the MINI was down for the count.
Got stuck twice trying to get into my driveway and had to dig her out :) |
Where in Chicago?
|
Well, here's a 'MINIs in snow' story of a different color: http://www.whec.com/article/stories/....shtml?cat=565 . Our local MINI Club (of Western New York) did this last Saturday in Rochester. Almost couldn't do it because the lot wasn't going to be cleared, but one of our members plows driveways when he's not driving a fire engine (which he did for an escort for the MINIs, but it's not on film).
Video segment is (currently) in upper left corner. |

We got some snow. I got into a little trouble when I parked on a hill, but was otherwise fine. Never needed a push. Then again we only got 4-6" |

I tried to find it on YouTube, but couldn't. Maybe it will be posted in a few days.
