Driver's side seat heater switch odd behavior....

Odd behavior noticed this morning. Turned on driver's seat heater, all 3 lights on, and seconds later, it was off!

Tried it again, would not light up at all. But if I stopped, turn car off completely, turned back on, and tried, same thing - lit up/on for a few seconds, then off. Passenger side works fine.

Relay?
Fuse? (but if it was blown, it would not turn on at all)
Something else?

Thanks.

Probably a bad contact... (any spills in that crack between the button may also have caused it). I would recommend getting your local dealer to take a look. Also I would wait for someone else to chime in as I am no expert on such matters as these.

An issue that definitely needs to be looked at by your Dealer. Mine are working fine in both seats...Nice and HOT!!

I havent had the same issue but i have noticed something odd with my drivers side switch. when it is colder out the switch seems "sticky" when i push it in. warmer weather it operates just fine. now, there have never been any spills in that area that i know of. but the only thing i can think of is that when it is colder there is something back there that is just getting gummed up. but again there have been no liquid spills there. so i dunno, it works fine but its a little annoying.

No spills at all, not even water in there, and no moisture issues. Not sticking, but could be contact issue. Heading in to dealer in a couple weeks.

Thanks for the replies.

Eric - it's happening to me too. Just on the driver's side - passenger's side is just fine. I just haven't had the chance yet to take the car into the dealer. Too bad, too...it's getting cold out!

Good luck getting it fixed!

Did you eat beans recently? Perhaps it is a safety feature designed to stop a fire.

but seriously... probably a loose connection under the seat, or a sensor. dealer time. Wouldn't hurt to check under the seat for a disconnected wire, but they should fix it anyway.

Nothing loose, checked. And the lights do come on initially, then blank out. Probably a relay. Wished I could get it in sooner, but they are running 10 days out or so. No biggie though. Thanks. And no beans lately.

Took it in last night, they started on it today. Got a call later tonight from the svc dept....guess what they found?

YES I FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT.

I tapped the fuse for the seat heater for my V1! OUCH.

So they took the V1 wiring out and will test it to see if that resolves, will know in the morning.

I should have known to check that first. Dang. Weird that it's worked fine until now, but of course, have not needed seat heating either until a few weeks ago.

Hope this helps someone else. Will close this out once I confirm tomorrow.

I just have noticed mine has no temperature change from high to low. It is all hot to me anyone else noticed that?

Eric (Plug Guy) Nov 28, 2008 04:35 PM

See my follow on thread under 'electrical'....

My 3-light switch worked fine before this, and on the passenger side still does. All 3 on for full hot, 2 for less, 1 for even less.
