Anyone's mirror caps turning yellow?

I have the Union Jack caps on my 1 1/2+ year old car. I've noticed that the tops of the caps are yellowing in the parts that should be white. The undersides remain white.

Any suggestions? Is this fixable? A warranty issue or a normal wear and tear item?

I've noticed that my wife's checkerboards have a slight yellowish tinge to them. They have been on the car for close to three years. It is probably the plastic yellowing so I doubt that it is fixable.

Sounds like the sun is taking its toll....

I noticed the samething on a '05 with checker caps on a used lot. This is part of the reason I went with black. I doubt that there is much you can do but replace them and try to keep wax on the new ones so it doesn't happen again.

I don't think there is anything you can do to stop the yellowing but they are under warranty against yellowing for 2 years so the dealer should replace them for free. I had mine replaced at around 2 years for free. It's been 2 years & the new ones are now yellowing so I guess this time I have to buy them. I am willing to pay for new ones every other time (if the new ones have a 2 year warranty) so I can have checkered mirrors

Turn it in

Back in my hotrod days, I had a friend who had a 57 Chevy...white with PURPLE AND WHITE alternating rolls tuck and roll interior, done by Ricky's in TJ. (Yeah, I'm dating myself). All us guys called the car "Circus Tent". That's why I call Minis with all that "stuff" by the nickname "Picadilly Circus".
You need to return the entire car to Picadilly Circus for a full refund.
Buy the circus ticket, take the ride.
Not really much of a problem. If that's your biggest problem, you have a nice car. Good luck.

I just took my brand new checkered caps off. I ended up not liking them that much as they are not painted, but molded in color. The white is not a nice bright white like the painted white caps that I put back on.

Selling my checkered caps (for powerfold R56) if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the info, bamatt. I didn't know about the 2-year thing.

Surf, I know you had a lot of trouble with yours, but mine is (knock on wood), reliable as heck. A few minor problems, but in line with a week 3 build. Certainly far less than I expected.
