Have you tried it with just the heater on high (no A/C)? There's a chance it might be a coolant leak in the heater core under the dash, which would account for the sweet smell. But even though the A/C dehumidifies the air, I'm not positive the air flows through the heater core if you're just running the A/C in cooling mode.

Did your passenger say it smelled like strawberries before you mentioned it, or did they just notice a smell? It's possible that whatever's causing the smell doesn't really smell like strawberries at all, and the strawberry smell is just how your brain is processing it.

I know that to me, "ACT II" microwave popcorn smells exactly like dirty feet, although it must not smell like that to most people, or they'd never sell another bag of it.

Likewise, the old Apple iBooks used to emit a hot plasticky smell from the keyboards that many users swear smelled exactly like B.O., while other users just thought it smelled like plastic, or couldn't detect any smell at all.

Ugh, dead things are VERY noticeable... I've dealt with many a dead body over the past few weeks, and you would notice it immediately upon encountering one... but better be safe and check the boot!

I'd go with the Big Red Soda theory... other than that, I'm stumped.

By the "Big Red Soda Theory", I think Noegel is talking about the possiblity that you may have run over something strawberry-scented (or that your brain interprets that way).

Seriously, I'd pull the cabin A/C filter and give it a good whiff. Whatever you're smelling coming out of the vents with the A/C on should be mucho-concentrated on the cabin filter. It may be that whatever originally caused the smell is long-gone, but the residue trapped in the filter is what's causing the lingering odor.

Oh I get this smell as well!!! I just passed it off to being some solvent used to grease the sunroof. I don't notice it as much anymore. Nigel is 2 months old now but it hasn't been as humid. I'm just glad I don't have the sunroof issues a lot seem to have. Mine opens just fine after sitting outside in the hot hot humid Houston heat. :D

Go Big Red! (isn't that about all Nebraska football fans chant during a game?). I think you ran over some.

It's been three days, we may need to send a rescue squad to Apple's home!

Then it's settled. The ghost of a mouse that loves strawberries is haunting your car. It has decided to innundate you with the smell in hopes that you will bring it a basket of strawberries from the grocery store so it can smell them.

I would do this before the grocery stores are completely out of strawberries for the season. I'm sure that this will improve your karma and the smell in your vehicle.

You obviously have a very small coolant leak in your heater circuit under the dash, or in the engine compartment and it is filtering in . bring it back to the dealer before it causes more problems.

Coolant smells like maple syrup to me, but different kinds have different smells. Have them check the coolant system and heater core. Or park over a white sheet or paper overnight, and see if any drops come out. Though it could be completely internal.

Couldn't it be the smell of cosmoline? I remember it has a distinct odor, but it's been many years since I've smelled it.
