Here you go, Wizeguy9999...
http://s174.photobucket.com/albums/w...rent=Zigy5.jpg

This is what it looked like up until two days ago. Now it has B&W Checkered side mirror caps, and the B&W Checkered rear view mirror cover as well.

Next I am having a guy do something with some Checkers for the roof, and something checkered and see through for the sun roof. Then I will get the Checkered door handles, and more than likely all of the checkered stuff I can get for it... Without covering up any Blue at all of course.

In my opinion only, the foglight is really the happy medium.
It really does make a difference (ive run all kinds of
experiments for a year) without being overtly hostile.

Speaking of which, I have a friend, a fomer killer Marine,
he doesn't do it often mind you, but for the hyper
tailgaiter he burns their retinas out with an
18 million candle power spotlight.

THAT can not be ignored.

Bottom line in my opinion again, if you don't want your
retinas burned out you don't want your windshield shot out,
you don't want to become a statistic in general
stop driving like the spoiled rotten a$$ that you are.
Road rage can be caused by simply looking at someone. The local Sheriffs office has actually advocated the practice of 3 quick taps of the brakes W/O slowing down as an indication to back off a bit.

Are you saying that you simply turn on your rear fogs when being tailgated? If so then you are basically doing the same thing, as the rear fogs are just as bright as the brake lights.

The same thing happened to me. I got the Aero package and they left the fog lights off the order, so I have no switch. They wired the front fog lights with the headlights, so they are on anytime the headlights are turned on.

Not much to do to fix as they don't have a switch kit available.

Yes. And it has been working.

I guess the disclaimer is it is not S. CA or DC.

And since I've upgraded all my bulbs and installed
the gominigo brake light modulator I can say
the rope pushers have in general laid back. I only
use the foglight for when the are way too close.

(You can't push a rope. No matter how close someone
gets to the bumper in front of them, if there are
50 cars in front of that one it doesn't speed up
the process)

I guess I still don't get it.......turning on the rear fogs for tailgaters = tapping the brakes. And you feel this is better.....hmmmm

And if someone is going 65 in conditions that req the use of rear fogs that is a whole new set of problems that rear fogs will not help with........lol

I guess when I started this forum I really wanted price information
and if stock wiring harness is there to support fog lights..
Really when I ordered I did not want a empty switch pod and to be honest really did not think or wonder myself why I wanted Rear Fog lights.
Was really more to fill switch panel for 100.00 dollars.
And to be honest with you think BMW after price of Areo package and
other packages should just include them and stop taking advantage of consumers on this car as they are..
Yes I like my Mini S and at times makes me sick that I paid 32K for this car
at times..
I am sorry I did get sport suspension after riding now 4th day..
But know I can make it a better ride by changing tires and in time will.
But the respones that I have seen and how different people think on one
question that had nothing to do with use but cost and hardware..
I will live without a switch and Rear Fog lights and not spend any more
money and just be happy that I have this beautiful overpriced car
that I have...
Here in NJ we have very little fog and sure in parts of country that rear fog lights are nice to turn on when foggy to let others see you in those conditions..
Thank You Joe in NJ

Sorry: your original question got burned all right. Here is what the parts cost me at Classic MINI in Mentor, Ohio.

Operating Lever $6.14
Switch Cover $62.72
Fog Light Left $21.56
Fog Light Right $21.56
Shop Supplies $22.00
Labor $262.50

TOTAL $394.58

The wiring was already in place on my 2007 MCS, March build. I can't speak for wiring or programmability on any other model. But I know that two dealerships told me, incorrectly, that the rear fog light retrofit could not be done on my MCS.

Here is a large thread on the subject:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=130720

To me, visibility is the issue -- whether it be in fog, snow, rain, dust.... This summer in Missouri I got caught in the remnants of a hurricane, and was pleased to be able to flick on the rear fogs and let the people behind me know I was up ahead.

Minspeed has a checkerboard spoiler decal. We installed it with the A-panel check decals from Aesthetic Creations. I think I'm all checked out for awhile. Although the roof seems to beg for something.....

I Wrote the Guide

I've been watching this thread with some confusion. Until now, no one answered the OP's question.

I wrote this guide back in January. Although I installed the hardware at that time, for a reason that I won't go into here, I didn't have my lights activated until July. They work perfectly now.

For me, the cost was as follows:

Rear Fog light housings and bulbs (2): $60
Switch Cover: $60
Switch: $6
Activation fee (labor): $57.50 (half hour of labor)

That was it. Consequently, a $100 option at time of order ended up costing me about $183.50. Of course, I installed the hardware myself.

Get them or don't get them, that's up to you.

...and yet the most important thing that needed to be pointed out still hasn't been mentioned.

MY2008 = you cannot retrofit fully functional rear fogs for any price. You are stopped dead in your tracks at the time of OBC reprogramnming. MINI USA hasn't authorized it, and the dealers won't do it, period.

MY2007 = you can 100% retrofit rear fogs through select dealers (Classic MINI being one of them)

Not a single person on NAM has confirmed that the dealer will reprogram the OBC on a MY2008 to accept retrofitted rear fog lamps. OTOH a few people (myself included) have reported back that MINI USA has told them flat-out no for MY2008.

I.e. if you have a MY2008 and just want to plug a non-functional-switch into your console or non-functional rear fog lamps, then buy those specific parts and follow Wolfshiem's install instructions. If you have a MY08 and want fully functional retrofitted rear fogs complete w/ switch to OEM specs then you are SOL.

If you want rear fog lamps that do not have a console switch but fills in the bumper blanks on the back of your vehicle, which also happen to act as a second set of fully functional rear taillights then you can pick up a Brake Light Kit at Minspeed here.

PS. I am dying for someone to step up and say "hey Drew you're an idiot, my MY08 has retrofitted rear fogs, I had it done at x dealer, and it cost x dollars for the reprogramming" Once I hear those magical words I'll even plan a road trip if necessary for the reprogram. But going through the hassle of ripping apart my dash to installing what amounts to dummy switches in my console is not something I'm interested in.
