It's dead Jim... My MCSA had to be flatbedded yesterday
Press the start button...
Fires up, runs for maybe a sec and shuts down with a big "!" in the cluster. No pic, just a "!"... Tried disconnecting the negative battery terminal, pumping the brakes and waiting about 1/2 hour to reset the ECU... Nothing... So took delivery in May... In dealer for defects/issues about 2 weeks so far... I'm really starting not to like British cars... Can you believe these people once ruled half the world!!! Anyway... Princeton Mini was great, they got me a mini loaner on a saturday afternoon, so Props to Isaac... Will keep everyone posted when I hear what happened... |
Ouch! I believe you have the entire board pulling for you both. Please keep us informed as to progress.
|

So what does the owners manual say about what causes the big ! symbol?
|
 I know it stinks - hang in there - keep us posted on what the dealer finds out.... all I can say is British Cars take patience - we have several in our stable...
Donna:cool:   |
Sorry to hear this Corey, good luck and please let us know the outcome.

Percyy aint ever left us in a lurch. Well, not so ar, anyway. Waiting with fingers crossed for sumpin' simple. |
bummer. i picked mine up in mid july. i hope this doesn't happen to me. someone already hit me and i don't want to be away from it while it gets fixed.
|
I'd like to know what the ! symbol means too, because this came up briefly when my husband was trying to change some settings in the on board computer with his fob. It happened when he pushed the start button, then the engine started and it blinked back out.
Good luck getting your MINI fixed. |
I am sorry to hear that Corey and I hope that it turns out to be a fairly simple repair and you will be back motoring again.
BTW my name is Jim but I know you were making a Star Trek reference to James T. Kirk in your thread title. |
No news yet.... Just thought I'd update everyone....
|
we are here for ya :)

Ouch I feel for you, go to know Princeton gives Mini loaners though. What issues have you been having before this?

OK... Dealer called... I piece of the intake fell off. If they shove the piece back on it works...
They put ordered a new piece to make sure it won't fall off again, so I should have the Mini back by the end of the week. |

No details yet... I'm sure when I pick the Mini up the paperwork will say what it is.
|
Based on the symptoms, sounds like a clamp somewhere after the MAF failed and allowed a hose to become disconnected.

and Tires pressures are not correct before TPS is initialized as TPS only checks if the pressures are less than 1lb then when initialized. Mine were way too low on 3 tires and too high on 1 when it was initialized. You can fix this one yourself, I had my system checked just incase though.... Funny though my gas mileage didn't get any better with 38lbs in my tires vs 26lbs or less in 3 of them. Must be the stiffness of the run-flats... |
OK here's the deal... Don't have the Mini back yet... Went to pick it up at the dealer and the brakes don't work right now. It's like the car has no power brakes and while you don't have to pump them, it's like an on off switch with only about 1/2 of play from the top and you have to stand on them to get them that far.
As for the dead thing... It was a turbo inlet tube before the MAF that was deformed and would not stay on. It also had some oil on it, so they ordered a new one. So the car runs now... Will keep you posted... So less than 3 months of ownership and in the dealer about 3+ weeks for defects... |
Sorry to hear about your problems... I have 500 miles on mine and so far the only issue happened yesterday; I opened the passenger door to load some stuff and the window dropped as usual but it went down about 2 inches, seemed excessive. When I closed the door it didn't go back up. I rolled it up using the window switch and then rolled it all the way down. The auto up wouldn't work now. I rolled it down and up again and then opened the door, it dropped the usual 1/2 inch or so and when the door was closed it went up again. I rolled it down and then used the auto up and it worked too. Strange but it fixed its self which is great because I wasn't looking forward to my first service visit at 500 miles.
