Astro has no sunroof, and I wanted it that way. I do, however, own cabs and sunroof cars as well.
In the cab, I do a good bit with the top down when I feel like it (temp is good, not too hot), but in the sunroof cars, I rarely use it.
On the Mini, I did not enjoy the sun beating down on me through the mesh, and did not feel I'd use the sunroof much either. Even with tint, I thought I would prefer no sunroof, so I got it that way.
And to throw another log on this fire, our household is both Mac and PC friendly (I have pc's here and at office, but all other members of this house have Macs, and I will probably drift that way soon).
Yep to sunroof or not to sunroof is just a matter of opinion, the Macs superiority and appeal are pure fact.
It's really amazing that there are either rabid sunroof demanders like me, and rabid sunroof haters like the others. Not too many ambivalent owners. Then again, the haters are largly people who didn't use previous sunroofs. Wonder why? No blue sky days?
I live in CA, and have plenty of blue sky days! Really, there are lots of reasons to like or dislike the Mini moonroof. Just accept the fact that many see it differently, and it has noting (or little) to do with the weather...
That glare, sun, heat and wind noise just doesn’t do it for me. I’m happy and those that have sunroofs are happy too. Nobody is right or wrong here, just different
For me a sunroof means unwanted sunlight, heat, expense, weight, and the potential for water leaks, wind noise, jamming, and rattles. Just my opinion.
I couldn't have said it myself. Also higher center of gravity and potential glass shards in your head if you get into an accident. My old roomate had 15-20 pieces of moonroof glass picked out of his scalp at the hospital when he got in a bad wreck with his Sentra Spec V, it was not pleasant. For me if you buy a coupe, just get a coupe if you want some sun buy a convertible.

I don't know about the MINI, but I assume it may be the same as on a BMW. If you don't have a moonroof, it gives you more headroom in the car (about 1.5 inches on my M3). That can be valuable space for a helmet if you plan to track the car.

I found the same with my M3 sedan. I did have a moonroof on mine as it's very hard to find an E36 M3 w/o one but luckily I fit. With my RX-8 I absolutely did not fit in one with a sunroof and helmet on. I actually brought my helmet to the dealer to test drive, people looked at me like
You CAN'T get a new 1 series without the feature! Another case when the Germans know best for us all!!!!
Matt
The new M3 comes with a CF roof and no hole in it. If you must have one, you have to option it and end up with a steel roof instead. You are right the Germans know what's best for us, but realize we Americans need silly cupholders and holes in roofs, so they humor us.

Glad we didn't get the sunroof. I like the feeling of being closed in while motoring and I had an issue with that big pane of glass over my head. Right on with your Mac Evangelism!
I was at my mini dealer in MN this weekend and picked up the "you-ification" workbook. It's basically the literature that explains all of the different options and such. In the booklet there is an option for "white out roof," which according to the picture looks like you have the retractable sunroof, but it's solid white like the rest of the roof (painted or not glass, unsure). Booklet says it $95, but I didn't see this option on miniusa, is it still available?
Seems like best of both worlds--you could still open it up for air, but the car wouldn't heatup.
Moon roof blasted by something - probably a rock.... (I have no idea where it came from)... Cost $957.00 to replace...(insurance paid... and dealership WAY overcharged)
Moral of story:.... think about not getting the moonroof next time..

If this were an option, MINI would probably sell more sunroofs....even I would consider one!!!

CF roof option for MINI would be nice... I would pay as much as $1000 for that option.
Mine will be coming in soon sans-sunroof. I would have ordered one if there was a decent way to block the sun when it was closed, but that mesh cover just doesn't do it for me. And since I open my current sunroof so infrequently I figured I wouldn't miss it.
