Phone Cradle

I have just received my phone cradle for the armrest for a Motorola RAZR V3. I have the Convenience Package and even without the cradle things are working perfectly. I can't understand the manual that came with the cradle as it is written entirely in German. Has anyone seen a manual written in English?

Thanks,

sd

I have the V3m from Verizon and I understand that the charger connection is reversed and will not fit the available cradle; but could you give me a confirmation, please?

Is the narrow side of the charger port "up" towards the face of the phone, or the broader base?

Thanks!

The narrower part of the plug-in is down as you slide the Razr into the cradle. So the broader side is on top.

My phone is a V3 from T-Mobile and it works just fine with the cradle.

The broader side of the connector is towards the face of the phone.

I'd love a translation, but don't have a softcopy to send you. Just need to know if there are any gotcha's to the installation. Mine is in, but I haven't tried to use it yet. The other question I have is whether or not the charger in the cradle is intelligent or will it tend to fry the battery?

Thanks,

sd

Hmm if you want to have some parts translated or you have a place to scan it let me know. You live to far away to take a look at the hard copy :P

I am picking up my 08 MCS with convenience pkg in about a week. I am trying to get my MA to order a cradle for the armrest for my RAZR V3. My MA doesn’t seem to be as motivated to help me with the cradle as he was to help me order the car. J Do you have a part number for the correct cradle? Thank you in advance for any help.

Yes, it's 84210415023, for the Moto Razr. I bought mine through Classic Mini in Ohio. It was $112 with the discount for NAM members, but that was last fall, so the price may have changed.

Thank you, Sowellman. I'll see if my MA comes through and finds me a cradle, and if not I'll contact Classic MINI.

When I first spoke with Classic, they weren't familiar with it, either. I had to press them a bit and when they realized the part number was a valid BMW number, they said they could obtain it and did.

You might also have to explain that to your dealer. Good luck.

Sowellman, I got an email from my MA. He can get the cradle for me but he is making it sound like it is a complicated task to “install the cradle”. Here’s what he said:

“That part # works and it's $140 for the part and less than 1 hour of labor for install but since he's never done one then it’s an estimate for about $100 ..$240 for part and install.”

Doesn’t the cradle just “snap” into the armrest? Is “installation” that complicated? Thank you again for your experience.

Don't allow him to install the cradle if he's going to charge you. Just tell him to leave it in the box with all the German writing on it.

It does just snap in place and even without the English language instructions, you'll be able to figure it out quite easily.

By the way, I'm originally from Emmett, just north of Boise. And I have friends from Eugene who now live in Barrington. I may be stalking you in both places.

Minidriver, thank you for the Razr Manual. That really helps me see the “installation”.

Sowellman, thanks for the confirmation that the "installation" isn't worth $100. And see you on the road somewhere. I'll keep the MCS in Chicago where I live half the time.

From the manual, here's the documentation for another long argued point:

The Motorola V3 mobile phone does not have
a connection for an external aerial. This mobile
phone connects to the car's external aerial
using a wireless connecting aerial integrated in
the Snap-In adapter.

Sowellman, thanks again for the part number. I exchanged email with my MA, asked him to consider lowering the price as I’m a NAM & BMW CCA member, and also explained I would do the 10 second install myself. My MA wrote back and said he would give me the cradle for free. I like my MA! Dan Kuhn at Knauz MINI in Lake Bluff, IL.

Sowellman, I picked up my 2008 MCS and my phone cradle on July 3rd. The cradle snapped into the armrest but I have one difficulty. The armrest "lid" doesn't open far enough to let my RAZR V3 install into the cradle. Did you have that problem?

I'm not sure if the armrest on the 2008s are the same as last year's model. If it is, try pulling up on the front of the lid after you slide it back as far as it will go. It should pivot from the rear and lift up slightly in the front. That should give you the clearance you need to get your phone in.
