Driver's side pwr window malfunction on 9th day.
Just my lucks...washed my car for the first time. Discovered 2 scratches/chipped paint. The AC isn't blowing cold air....now on the 9th day...the driver's side power window is malfunctioning. Correct me if I'm wrong.
When the window's all the way up. As soon as you open it it, it should go down about 1/4 inch. And should go up when you close the door right? It's not doing that or just barely move just a hair. The other problem is that when you flick the toggle switch quickly, it should go all the way up or all the way down right? It's not doing that either. My passenger's side working as it suppose to. I wondered if the water got in somewhere and ruined the pre-programmed state or ruined some of the electrial. |
sucks. i'd call the dealer asap. run over and have them fix it,or give you a loaner right away.

Can't help with the AC or paint but the window sounds like it just needs to be reset. Do a search on the site (or maybe it is in the owners manual) - there are descriptions on how to reset the window. From memory it involves putting the window down and then running it all the way up and holding the switch for a few seconds but you should do a search to confirm this.

My wife's car had the same problem with the window twice. Oddly enough, both times it happened, it was after picking it up from the Mini service dept. First time, she got home with the car (180 miles for dealership). We worked with it for a couple hours. It eventually got back to normal after several days. The second time it happened, she caught it before leaving the dealership and pointed it out. They replaced the window motor and it has worked ok since then (about 3 wks).
It will be interesting to see if it happens again next time it's in for service. |
Thanks guys....appointment with them tomorrow. I wonder if they will charge me the chipped paint.

no it wasn't. The passenger side's working fine.

I think he was asking about the paint. Do you expect your dealership to eat the paint/labor costs for something that happened after the sale and isn't a defect?
|
The car is playing with you. You have to show him who the boss is!

Thrash that car!
|
The window should go down with a quick flick of the switch, but not up.
Don't thrash the car. It's not the Woodhouse way. There are no bad MINIs. |
First impression is the most important!! and the they blew it. Four and 1/2 hours waited for the car's window to be fixed. Couldn't fix the problem...there's a bulletin about this problem. They followed the procedure but didn't work. They put out some sort of "ticket" to engineers in NJ and waiting for a solution.
ps. I was willing to pay for the touch up...but they didn't charge. I wouldn't pay for it after two tries...looked horrible. I could have done it myself at home and might look better. Don't get me wrong...I LOVE the car but not the dealer or its mechanics.... |
Not 6 hours after having posted above (last Thursday), my wife's passenger window messed up. After working with it for a while and doing a reset procedure she had previously been told (hold both window switches up or down for 10 seconds, can't remember which) now both windows are messed up. She' calling the service dept today.
She picked up her new MY Mini S in late March. Has been thru Nashville 4 times since. Each time she's had to have the car serviced. Once for some additional paint around the passenger side front fog light, once to have the rear bumper replaced (it was cracked up receipt), and twice for the windows. None of this was major, but 4 trips thru Nashville and had to stop for service each time! She absolutely loves the car, but doesn't like getting to know the service dept so much. |
Wife's mini was back in the shop yesterday afternoon to look at the windows. They told here they (Mini of Nashville) had several come in for the same problem. They indicated this time that there was some kind of computer related issue. They got them working correctly, but indicated if it happened again they would have to replace a chip somewhere in the system.

window regulator and motor problems have plauged BMW products for decades. Ask the poor guy who plunked down 100K large for a new M6 only to need new window regulators in the first 2,000 miles  Go figure. BMW can't.
