Okay, so mine's on its way...

Hello all,
I'm new here, great forum. So I took the plunge and ordered a 2008 MC (just a cooper) the day before my birthday, April 21st. So now, I'm anxiously waiting and waiting. According to the tracker, it's built and waiting transport.

Here's my spec-
2008 MC - Chili red, black roof/mirrors/bonnet stripes
manual trans
Tuscan Leather
Sport seats
Ipod/bluetooth
Front fog lights

I originally wanted to get out of my V6 Passat due to high gas prices, so I started thinking - Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris. Fortunately, I stopped by the Mini dealer first and test drove a manual tranny MC. The MA was too busy, so he let me take the car out on my own (with my 8 year old in the passanger seat). I was blown away by this car. Driving it felt absolutely telepathic, something which is hard to describe to someone else. One must simply drive it to understand. But wow, what an experience. I looked over at my son and he loved it too. BTW, this car will eventually become his when he reaches driving age in about 8 years, so I plan on taking very good care of it.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello. Looking forward to becoming an active member of the forum.

Tony

I know exactly what you mean. My first experience in a Mini was driving my friends 07 on a 200 mile loop of twisties. Telepathic is a good way to describe it. I always tell people you have to drive the car to really appreciate it.

Welcome to the site btw!

If you're getting front fogs, go ahead and get rear fogs for the extra $100 so that all your toggles are filled.

I wanted to do just that, but I'm going to need to put a trailer hitch on it (probably from minidomore), and it utilizes the hole in the bumper where the rear fog goes. I'm going to carry my bike rack via trailer hitch - don't want a roof rack.

Welcome to NAM! :)

Ahh, I see the magic that the MINI weaves has snared you.

The MINI has a way of doing that to folks. I've yet to see anyone step out of a MINI and not sport a BIG smile!

Your life will not be the same after your MINI experience... It has changed for the better!

Congrats Tony on your order and now sit back and enjoy the anticipation of what awaits you!

Nice Cooper you've spec'd!

Enjoy & Motor On! :)

Congratulations! You're gonna love it!

And your son better appreciate how lucky he is that his first car will be a mini... mine was a nissan stanza wagon.

Congrats...that will be an awesome MINI. It is true...Coopers are frequently overlooked as a contender in the battle for the best mpgs, even though there's nothing that comes even close in driveability. Maybe it's good that way...it's more fun to discover it for yourself.

HOLY SCHMOLEY! You just described the IDENTICAL path that I took to discovering MINI! (though I drove the other cars FIRST). Drove the Yaris (boring and uncomfortable driving position), then the Fit (much better, but just left me a little cold). Gave MINI a shot after seeing the new fuel economy numbers for the 1.6. I always was under the negative impressions that MINI's were gas hogs (relative to their size) and unreliable (the BMW thing was tripping me up, as I know that they can be finicky). But, like you said, once I sat in, examined, and drove the MINI, I was hooked!

I'm ordering my car tonight, and counting down the days until it's in my driveway. Then, I will smile as I Motor to work every morning while I drive by gas stations and flip 'em the bird!

Congratulations on your car
