After 1 month of owning the R56, I've done it once now.
 

Left the key in the ignition without knowing it. With this new key fob and the start/start button, I knew it was bound to happen. This is a radical change for me after 22 years of doing it the old fashioned way. :-)

Here's how it happened. Wash the car in the driveway. Move the car up. Press the stop button. Push the key in so it clicks off. Grab some misc garbage in the car to throw out. Get out of the car and throw out the garbage. Put the car cover on it. :-) Go to sleep. Go to work the next morning. Where's my house keys? It's in the MINI under the car cover. :-)

How many times have you forgot your keys in your R56? Or am I the only dope? Any good stories out there?

Nope sorry I haven't forgotten my keys. But I did leave my lights on the first night I bought it.:lol:

hell i'm doing it the old fashioned way, and have

(1) left the house expecting the keys to be in car in the garage (locked myself out)
(2) left the car in garage (with keys) closed the door and then discovered the house was locked
(3) entered the house and put the keys down in the wrong place - creating [1] above
(4) finally adopted the habit of not locking the door to the house until i've entered the garage and actually seen the keys in their normal spot
(5) and finally, twice, done [4] above and then departed in the car, leaving the house unlocked!

I used to think grown ups were OCD about all kinds of things but now start to understand that good habits are a survival skill!

That is part of being a good MINI owner ! Everybody knows that you need to establish a strong bond to your freshly bought MINI.
Leaving his/her lights on in the beginning is part of it, so it doesn't panic in the dark garage/car port. (Never let a new MINI stand on the street alone over night the first couple days !)
Also, sleeping with your new MINI in the garage is recommended as well !
In order to not upset your spouse with your care for the new car I would recommend to start a fight with her/him that puts either of you onto the sofa over night, easier to step outside without to much attention !

22 years of taking the key of out the ignition on the steering column is a survival skill that I need retraining on now. :-)

Oh, and I meant "stop/start", not "start/start" button. I guess you can see how much I like driving this car. I don't want to turn it off. LOL

Ah, the joys of the Comfort Access system. Never leave the fob in the car because it doesn't come out of my pocket. I have:

1. Gone down stairs to the garage before realizing I didn't bring the fob.
2. Accidentally left the spare fob in the pocket of a pair of pants and forgot to check before putting them in the wash. The fob survived.

The only OCDism I can see above is the fact that you've kept a list of all your previous goofs.

Never done this...but have tried to eject the FOB to shut the car down on a few ocassions, instead of using the start/stop button...good thing its idiot proof:thumbsup:

Never have here. 90% of the time I leave it in my pocket since I got the comfort access option. On longer drives I put it in the dash slot. Same theory as taking your wallet out of your back pocket on longer drives.

Like everyone else with comfort access & the sport seats, I'm waiting for the day I forget my wallet in the center console, I've never even put the fob in the ignition slot.
