I have the Craven Speed and it is good at $20. However, I just saw a MC with the Alta version and I like the flare it has at the base, but it costs $30.

I did a test in my driveway on an FM station with marginal reception. I couldn't hear any difference between the factory whip, stubby, and no antenna. They all sounded the same. YMMV.

I have the one from Craven Speed as well. Works fine for me and costs less than the Alta stubby.

I have the 2" Alta and like it all around. Reception seems "good enough" but I haven't done any hardcore comparison with the stock antenna.

I have the 2" Alta. I do notice some loss of FM reception. I listen to MP3s most of the time, so it does not bother me.

I actually bought the Craven first but then replaced it with the Alta. I like the 2" stubby, the base flares out and matches better than the 4" and the Craven. I have actually owned all 3. Haven't noticed any reception problems but I live in LA and have the iPod interface.

Can someone post some close up pics so we can compare Craven to Alta, installed?

I think I'm hearing that the Craven's taper doesn't line up as well with the base. However, I don't think I've seen what that looks like...how bad off is it, etc.

Thanks

4" alta loses reception

I have the 4" alta and, while it looks good, I noticed a big loss in reception on my commute where I travel through a canyon. Since I mostly listen to the ipod, its not that big a deal, but it definitely can't pick up weak stations like the stock antenna.

I guess I'm the only one who got the 4" from OutMotoring? I love it- from a looks standpoint, I think it's the most attractive of them all, and reception is great in my area.

Just put my 4" Alta on my MC yesterday. We're in an area with marginal radio stations anyway, so I can't say I've noticed a difference.

I've got the 4" Alta, mostly because it's the first one I saw that wasn't the silver one (forget who makes that one). Haven't noticed any loss in reception, but like others, I listen mostly to MP3s.

Yes. It's its the OEM rack. Just got the car this week, so we haven't used it yet, but there are a bunch of great threads. I'm going to get a Thule cargo box to go on it when we have trips that we don't want to take the SUV on, but that require more gear. (Aka any trip with hubby, baby and dog.)

ive had the oem roof rack for some time now and i really like it. I can get it on in about 5-10 minutes and since its actually a thule product rebranded as a MINI product, it is very easy to get accessories to mount to it.

Since i enjoy mountain biking, i got a thule side arm and the combo has been great!

The stock rack uses thule aero bars so some racks may need adapters but they are easy to get.

I love my 2-inch Alta Stubby. It works great with a car cover and I haven't noticed any problem with reception.

I really like the way the short stubby antennas look on the Mini. How hard was it to install? Is it something that I just screw on in place of the old antenna or will I have to drill into the roof? Thanks.
