We took the Mini out in somewhat rainy conditions yesterday to watch the Amgen Tour of California go by just a few miles from home. This is Sunday morning as they head out of Santa Clarita up Sand Canyon Road on their way to Angeles Forest and Angeles Crest down to the finish in Pasadena.

It was cool. We went into Santa Clarita (we live about 10 miles out of town) for the finish on Saturday. When the race came into town they did 3 laps around a 3.5 mile course. My wife and I were standing on a corner - right on the inside on the edge of the curb. We were completely unprepared for how the peloton dives right into the apex of the corner.

They passed just 18 inches away at 25 mph.

We almost fell over backwards with the shock of it.
