Anyone out there use the OEM roof rack with two kayaks on a regular basis? How solid do they feel? I'm thinking about taking a kayaking road trip and would much rather take the MINI than the Taurus wagon which is currently our kayak-mobile.

 

Isn't the kayak longer than the MINI?

 

My thought, exactly. Then the work "airborne" came to mind.

 

Easy, take the MINI. Put the tow hooks in the bumpers and use them to tie down the front and back of the boats. I have carried a few things longer then my R50 without issue.

 

Since when did size matter with our cars? But to answer the question, at 12 and 14 feet, yes, they're longer.

 

Ok, ok, I was wrong...the R56 is 12' 1.6", so only 1 of the two yaks is longer.

 

I saw 2 kayaks on a Mini last summer. The kayaks where on their side.

 

They were probably using the same "J" style racks that I have.

 

A friend of mine put a rack on his R56, and carries 2 kayaks. Don't know what kind of rack it is, though.
