What is an Anthracite Headliner

Hello everyone, I want to get a MINI sometime next year. My dad has a 2003 yellow twin charged one. We were using the configurator the other day seeing the possible prices. Anyway, we came across an Anthracite Headliner and couldn't figure out exactly what it was. The MINI website didn't seem to explain in very well.

We've got the anthracite headliner. In addition to it being black, which gives a sort of cocoon feel to the interior, it has a softer almost felt-like texture. We're happy with the choice.

Anthracite is another word for coal. So, it is a coal black headliner.

Does anyone have a pic of the standard one? I've never seen it, and the configurator doesn't show the headliner very well.

Two non-standard thoughts on the headliner choice. My opinion only. The standard 'near' white headliner shows wear and hand prints (like - the break dust, off of the front rim after a quick tyre pressure check) very badly. If you or that helpful Mini Service person grabs the 'A' pillar for most any reason you will know it. Also if you option for one of the Speaker / audio upgrades - the additional black colored 'A' pillar speaker enclosure looks odd (IMO). As mention by Malist - the Anthracites coal color seems to close in on you a bit. If your Dealer does not have a Anthracite example on the lot - Try visiting with a Mini club in your area.

That is awesome looking. My dad's MCS is twin charged. I actually think he is on this website somewhere. Its a liquid yellow mini with a huge graphic on each side and a unique roof design.

haha, sorry, excuse my lack of knowledge. i was not aware of such a kit for the MINI, sounds like its pretty insane though!

anyway, i cant recommend the anthracite headliner enough, it really just makes the interior look so nice. no offense to the default light grey, but i think it just looks funny when everything else in the car is dark or black.

There's an animated .gif in this post that shows the differences between the anthracite and standard headliners.

It's funny....I was planning to order a MINI with the Anthracite headliner but ended up buying a pre-owned car that had the standard. The one benefit of the standard light grey color is that it lightens up the upper half of the interior thus, IMHO I think it makes a small interior space look bigger - more open. I don't mind the grey at all - although your seat colors may look better with Anthracite. It itsn't something I would stress over - they both look good.

I don't have my MINI yet (should be next week!), but I went with the lighter interior color (standard grey) because I didn't want the thing to be a heat-sink. We'll see how chintzy the interior looks once I receive it. I basically went with the standard options on everything with the sport Leatherette seats.

The headliner is the only option that I wished I'd gotten with my car that I didn't. Too bad I wasn't smart enough to come on NAM first and ask about it.

Get it. Just my opinion...

the grey isnt horrible, nor does it necessarily look cheap, i just like the look of the black... as for heat, i think a black roof vs white roof is a better comparison since the headliner isnt in the direct path of the sun, it doesnt necessarily change the heat absorbtion that much.

im sure you could, but it would be way expensive. Its more than just the headliner as you can see in my picture... all of the bits from the beltline up ( on the inside of course) are black. Im sure the parts will cost a lot and the installation will cost even more.

My opinion--I hate black in small places, like a car. I can see the points you all have mentioned, but the light color is...well...light and airy. I think that's what a MINI needs--that and a (tinted) sunroof.

Could be a gender thing, though.

Like gnlr13 said, it's the same felt as the std. headliner....the Anthracite is just a color change option.

yeppers robin is correcto! living in pennsyltucky anthracite is commonly called hard coal better for heating while butuminous ( soft coal is better to make steel with). for a limited time you get a bag of coal candy with every anthracite headliner ordered.

Just in case you needed a comparison ... I think the Anthracite headliner looks great, BTW .. but liked the standard look just as much.
