I don't feel like naming my MINI o.o

:eek2: I see most people in here have a name for their mini / are in the process of naming their mini. I don't feel like having a name for my future car (yes yes 6 days away from the coast of CA) - i've tried both female and male names but cannot get to name my car :eek2:

Am i the odd one here?

eVal Oct 23, 2007 03:25 PM

Nah, you are probably not the odd man out, just that the namers are more vocal about it on NAM :)

I've always named vehicles, so its not just a Mini thing for me - somewhere along the line it just seems to acquire a fitting name, perhaps after you have your Mini a fitting name will come to you

Modnar Oct 23, 2007 03:31 PM

While I was away at my freshman year of college my sister named the car we were sharing something horrid (and stuck a 'Cowgirls Rule' bumper sticker on it to boot), so after that experience I've always proactively named my cars.

Maybe something will come to you after you've taken delivery.

IanF Oct 23, 2007 03:34 PM

Nothing wrong with that.

Our one friend who's had his MCS for almost 5 years still hasn't named it.

Both of our MINI's have names... as does the Spitfire... my '95 Dodge Cummins even has one... But my daily-driver Jetta does not and neither does the Volvo 1800ES - simply nothing came to mind.

Sometimes, a name just hits you... I built an R56 MCS on MINIUSA the other day and had named it by the time I was done... too bad the car will probably never get built...

I have a nameless Mini too. Not really into the naming thing either. My Grandparents always named their cars. It just seemed weird!

mauberley Oct 23, 2007 03:40 PM

I named my MINI. But I still refer to it as "my car" or "the car" when conversing with most people.

valthun Oct 23, 2007 03:53 PM

yeah, I named mine, but I too still refer to it as the MINI. Since my family isn't known for naming cars so they wouldn't know what I was talking about.

Edge Oct 23, 2007 04:01 PM

...then don't name it. :)

I didn't name my MINI at first, but my (former) girlfriend kinda named it for me, and it stuck... it makes sense - Mr. OEM it is. :)

I also still have my older 1995 Mustang GT, which to this day doesn't have a name. It's "Edge's Mustang". Heh. Mind you, since my license plate on it says "EDGE", people may think the car itself is named as such. Oh well!

tigwantstoplay Oct 23, 2007 04:26 PM

No one names their MINI, silly....

....MINIs come with names; just as they each come with a unique personality. It's just a matter of time until your MINI tells YOU what it's name is.

I agree. It took 5 weeks and a road trip before we ended up with Baker. Seems fitting since my wife is one anyway! Besides PW is kind of doughy colored.

justintime Oct 23, 2007 05:22 PM

imagine what it would be like if people didnt "feel" like naming their kids...

Mine is still silent. I've never named cars. Boats, but not cars. Perhaps if everyone had the name painted on the stern... er boot, yet that's it.

Then the kids could name themselves and not be stuck with what their parents named them.

Could that be the Asian Emperor your car is on? Landing at Port Hueneme Monday the 29th? I am awaiting an '07 as well.

Yucca Patrol Oct 23, 2007 06:42 PM

lacning74 Oct 23, 2007 06:54 PM

I was never creative enough to name my car.

Where i come from, our names are picked up from a pool that the astrologers get to after consulting their charts (positions of planets and moons) and there is a naming ceremony that includes approval of a name by the family and ceremonial stuff. :eek2:

Wait until you drive your little pride and joy home, a name will come to you.
I mean, ya wouldn't leave the hospital with "Female Jones" on your daughter's Birth Certificate would ya?

ChiliXer Oct 23, 2007 08:12 PM

I'm an engineer and its a machine, not a person. Names have never seem appropriate for cars to me. I was wondering how many people here don't actually name their MINI. Seems odd to me don't remember seeing anyone on Honda or Subaru forums that names their car, just a drastically different crowd.

MINIclo Oct 23, 2007 08:21 PM

You could do what my dear friend koolmini does -- call it "Dude" and you won't have to remember a name.:cool:

mauberley Oct 23, 2007 09:03 PM

The Dude abides.
