RPM's at 70 MPH - Auto vs. Stick ? MCS
The window stickers on MCS show that the autos get 3 MPG less that the sticks. Is this due to the cars running at higher RPMs. What RPMs do your cars turn at 70 MPH? Post whether you have an auto or stick. TIA

A stick shift will always get better gas milage if driven right, a stick is much more efficient at transmitting the energy o fthe engine than an auto. Typically you'll see between 10 and 15% of the energy lost to drivetrain loss in a stick, whereas an auto will lost between 18 and 25. Some more complex systems (AWD, Etc) can lose 35%+ from the engine to the wheels . I can assure you I don't get better milage with my stick .

Yep- automatics usually lose some efficiency in the torque converter. Standard transmissions have the advantage since there's always a direct mechanical connection. Current automatics use a mechanical clutch in certain conditions to make them more efficient.
