What is the key slot for the passenger and driver side door handels do. I have no key just the fob that I start the car with. Should I have received a traditional key as well as the fob when I took delivery?.

Hogtied Sep 8, 2007 06:17 PM

Oh, boy.. you need to pay your MA a visit.. he blew your delivery.:eek2:

Your "big" key has a standard key hidden inside. Push the small chrome button while pulling out on the part of the key with the hole in it. You should get a standard cut key (although there's nothing standard about it).

FortyTwo Sep 8, 2007 06:17 PM

There is a silver button on the back of the fob. Press it and the tradition key will slide out. The end of the key is the black plastic with the hole in it, where a keyring would go...

Take a look at your manual. If you are near radio towers, it's possible that the fob will not propperly unlock the doors. Flip you FOB over, and push the silver button. Then pull the metal key out from the FOB. This is what fits in the door.

brudgers Sep 8, 2007 07:43 PM

The key is also the only way to roll up the windows from the outside.

Read the manual  Why do that when one can just post on forums.

I love this forum. Reading the manual is like pulling teeth. Some people like me are bored on Saturday and want to help. I have nothing but time to figure out new things about my mini while watching the Angels get shut out. We were actually looking at tickets for tonight at Sub Hub and ok seats were over $65.00 each. What a horrible game to go to so far. Thanks to everybody for telling me about the secret compartment.

That's not true, at least if you have comfort access. I'm able to push the black button on the car doors.

I don't. The point of it eludes me.

Really... That's awesome!

Well, let's see, how about the ability to close your windows and sun roof outside the car.

Plus, I like the convenience of never having to dig in my pocket for the key. Sure, I've done that my entire driving life and it wasn't a big deal. But it's great fun to just push the button on the door handle and the start button without having to worry about the key.

Starting to wonder if all the "comfort access" systems are programed the same.
On Skeeter's CA system, holding down the unlock button unlocks driver door, pops top, winndows down. A second push will unlock passenger door. Holding down the lock button on fob locks doors, but does nothing with top or windows. Holding the button on door handle, locks both doors, closes top and windows. :sly:

.

I can already close the windows from outside with the key.

I don't worry about the sunroof.

Anyway, I'd think leaving the windows down would kinda make automatic unlocking redundant.

Don't mean to be coy....but how did you get to be 4th gear (over 300 posts) without knowing about the key inside the fob?

Welcome!

In stock form, you cannot roll the windows up remotely with or without the convenince package. You can only roll them down. You may be able to roll them up with the key in the lock if outside the car, but I'll have to check...

However, I'll post instructions on how to change this as soon as I get a chance. I'm hoping to do it this weekend or sometime in the very near future!

rensky Sep 10, 2007 11:55 AM

Hi, thanks for responding.

when you say 'stock form' do you mean un-modified?

I do. Stock, as in no changes to the entry system. I believe it is a non-feature for liability reasons. I've had previous cars like this, but was able to wire them to roll up via remote. I just need to find time to do it in the mini, but one thing at a time! I had the whole back interiout out this weekend...

It looks like I lied on my earlier post. I can lock doors, close the windows and the roof with the black button on the door handle. Pushing the lock button on the fob, though, does not affect the windows or roof, only locks the doors. Sorry about the misinformation earlier.

Oh I cannot wait to be able to change this. My Jag is the same way and has always driven me nuts. If I have my windows down and it starts to rain outside I would like to be able to walk to the window, look out at the car and close the windows w/o having to walk out into the rain!

Please figure this out!

wrxdriver Sep 10, 2007 01:07 PM

On my 07 mcs its not the lock button on the fob to roll down the windows, its the unlock button.

rensky Sep 10, 2007 01:26 PM

^ so how do you roll UP?

wrxdriver Sep 10, 2007 01:35 PM

I use this outside roll down feature before i enter my car to let out some of the heat. Thats pretty much it and it works for me. You cant roll it up by remote.

rensky Sep 10, 2007 01:41 PM

icic, got it, thanks!!

amazonracer Sep 10, 2007 09:16 PM

Hey Pam, participating in NAM is not an accomplishment to me ("over 300 posts"). Since I took delivery I haven't had much time to really check out the car and finding things new everyday. Working with computers lets me express myself through this forum and If someone is counting, I can't do anything about it.
