Installed my H&R's and now the wheels shimmy
I installed my h&r springs about 3 weeks ago. had a friend at the MINI dealership do them. Got the car aligned and it still has a shimmy or shake in the whole car:sad:. This only happens between 20-30MPH. I've checked every thing out behind the wheels and it looks good and tight. I have never had this happen in a lowered car before does anyone else have this problem? I may just put the factory springs back in or wait for the JCW suspension. Please help me out!

Maybe the shop didn't align it properly. I've had that happen to me. I'd take it back to them and ask 'em to check it.

there's been some threads on dropped cars affecting the driveshaft balance, if you post in the mod forum you may get a better response
anytime you drop a car you run this risk, more so on FWD cars where you feel it right though the steering wheel |
thanks for the quick response. I feel as if they did not align it to the right specs. i'll take it back and see if they can fix it. thanks again:thumbsup:

Do you have aftermarket wheels? If so, maybe the hub rings got left out.
|
I've dropped mine using H&Rs. If dropping effects the drive shaft balance, why doesn't it happen on every car?
I would guess A) Alignment or B) Somthing didn't get torqued down to spec and is allowing some shimmy. Either way, get it into the shop and double-check everything. |
That is NOT NOT NOT NOT normal! Something (not the springs) is wrong. Take it back immediately!!!!!!!!!!! Are the lugs loose? Check em! IF they are have it towed in, and make the dealer fix that and the damage related.
I assure you the springs are NOT the problem!!!!! |
Lower has no effect, the dealer did not do somthing correctly, very possible your lugs nuts are loose and if so you should watch out that the mag holes are still round and not oval or worse.

no, lugs are good and tight. I've removed all 4 wheels and checked all bolts and they are all torqued to spec. mounted wheels and retight lugs and still shimmies:mad:

Wheel balance?
But it didn't do it before lowering? Pretty strange. I would really let the dealer go through it. Definately somthing going wrong in there somwhere. |
Did you check for hub rings?
|
it sounds more like driveshaft issues
you should move this post into the suspension forum, theres a few people with the exact same problem with lowered cars |
Have the lug nuts loosened and then tightened with a torque wrench not an air gun. Air tools are not regulated and your lugs could have been attached with different rates. This would certainly cause a shimmy and can also cause your rotors to eventually warp as well. I don't trust dealers nor tire installers when it comes to this. I always re-do them once I get the car home.
Hope this helps, Robb |
