R56 Yokohama A008's
Yokohama A008's
I used to have an 86 Integra and put on some Yokohama A008's. They were GREAT tires. I checked and they are not for sale anywhere anymore. Not suprising given 20 years of tire technology. I liked them because they were sticky and cheap. That was good because they didn't last long!
What is the modern A008? Something sticky and cheap?

Paul, I too use to use the 008r for track days. Most tyre companies now make R compound tyres including Yokohama and Toyo. They are not as 'cheap" as the 008 were but then again, you were probably shaving them like i was and not getting that much use out of them.
Ruby, Thanks for the tire tip. I will look into them.
Mbot, I never bought the 008R, but just the plain A008's. My thought was if they were grippy enough, I would enjoy the better tire life compared to the "R" tires. They still didn't last that long... That's why I was looking for "cheap" tires. I don't mind changing them out more often if they don't cost an arm and leg. I loved what those tires did and would buy them again without hesitation if they were available.
Thanks both of you guys. Hey, you should put your name, or at least your first name to make it more personal to reply to!

It has been so long that I didnt remember that there were different versions of the 008s. I only had the R's. There are many threads on this forum about tyres. Seems the Goodyears gs-ds seems to be most popular right now and at a good price. If you like the Yokos, stay with them. They still make great tyres. I have used the Prada Specs and AVS100. Both great. Or check out the Neova that are standard on the Elise and Exige. They are pricey though

Nice to meet you Michael. I will check out the Goodyears. I did like the Yokohamas, but that was a long time ago, in a galaxy... The point being sticky and short lived is ok if they are cheap enough. For all the talk on this website, I see little about tires. I will have to do some research. BTW, the Yokos I used so long ago were great. Sam's Club sold them, and I went through a few sets without complaint. I wonder if Sam's still sells Yokohamas... I will have to check them out. Maybe worth getting a membership! I am doing this research now because I can tell the factory tires won't hold up too long. I am daydreaming about tires and a can of runflat.
