Just got my Clubman back...
...after having a reman engine put in.
First, brake light on the dash is on (yellow). No problems with brakes, tail lights are all working (see next statement for additional info), but I can't figure it out. Second, my backup light is always lit and my rear sensor warning goes off if something gets to close to the rear of the car - even if I'm driving or in neutral. Is it possible to easily cross a wire when putting the transaxle back in? Maybe this is part of the issue with the brake warning light on my dash? Third, my BOV isn't working. Does this: https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.nor...e050777d51.jpg Have something to do with that? And if not: 1. Where does that plug belong and 2. How do I check the function of the BOV? Other than these issues, the rebuilt motor runs like buttah. Lots more power than the one I had in the car before (I think one of the previous owners drove the car pretty hard). Thanks for your help and ideas, guys! |
that is the plug that sits under the engine wiring harness.
check the plug that goes into the shifter mechanism. in general, you paid for a service and they should take care of these issues. give them a call reporting these issues to them. |
Oh for the love of...
Got all those issues sorted out, but now I've got another. I'm hearing a quiet metallic grinding/whirring noise from the passenger side of the engine, and when I turn the car off the fan in the engine bay is going full blast for about a minute. Coolant reservoir is still full, no leaks anywhere. Water pump? |
Or thermostat sensor.
|
Would that create that metallic sound? Almost sounds like a bad bearing.

So, good news and not quite horrible news. It's not the water pump that's broken, but the friction wheel. Little more expensive and I'm having to replace a pulley and the serpentine belt with it. It's not as invasive as pulling the water pump out of the engine, but a little more difficult to get to the bolts holding the friction wheel on. Ah, the joys of Mini ownership.
