Joey Mod Clubman Tail Lights

Has anyone attempted to do a Joey Mod on the Clubman Tail Lights? I have a 2012 Clubman S and have removed all the chrome except for the chrome within the tail lights. I am wanting to strip the chrome and paint them black to blend with the black trim. I don't want to simply tint the tail lights as I have a red and black theme going on.

I'd be interested to see this done. I don't think I've ever seen a Clubman with custom black-out tail lights.

Some 3rd gen Miata owners have opened up their tail lights and painted them up:

While the mechanics of the light assembly are different, the process would be the same.

Nice! Did you have to dreamed them open? Did the chrome come off once the lens was off? Easy to seal back up?

I had to Dremel them open. Used a cutting wheel on the Dremel and made a cut just behind the lens cover around the black plastic housing. I had to go around several times until I saw chrome in the cut. The cover then became loose enough to gently pry off.
I didn't remove the chrome, though I am sure you could if you looked for any tabs holding it in. I simply taped off the red lenses and took paint stripper to the chrome.
Finished with a few coats of black plastic paint and sealed the thing up with Loctite Marine Adhesive Sealant (which I thought I read dried clear but actually dries white, so going to be painting that black in the near future). The sealing process was easy though. The Loctite holds fast and takes around 24 hours to cure but I was able to mount the light back up in less than an hour to allow me to go to the grocery store haha.
