Anyone ever see their windshields develop tiny specks all over?

My 2010 Clubman S has developed a problem with the entire windshield being covered in little specks, which appear to be embedded in the lamination I'm guessing? It's absolutely everywhere on the glass, and when driving into low sun is so bad as to be really obstructive. Not so noticeable at other times. See pics, which don't show extent of problem, which is all over entire glass.

Yep. Because the windshield has such a high pitch (almost straight up) rocks that hit it don't bounce off as much as most other cars.
The windshield takes the impact more directly.
More rock chips. 😕

The question should be, does anyone NOT get pitted windshields? It's been a big complaint of MINI owners since the beginning.

Not just MINIs, any car develops these over time. My 15 yr old Acura MDX with almost 300K got really bad, finally one rock did it in and I had to get it replaced. What a difference.

These specks are from driving fast as crap in the air hits the nearly upright glass.
Take a look at your wiper arms and see if the black coloring is going away. If so, slow down or get an aerodynamic shaped car.

Neither of the two choices above work for me!!!

You can try to buff the glass out with bone meal paste but have you ever heard the saying '"like watching paint dry?"

Here in Colorado gravel is put on the snowy roads. Our windshields get pulverized in the Winter. The front of cars need plastic/vinyl clear bras to protect from rock chips.

I've had mine replaced 4 times in 11 years, consider it a normal wear item like tires and such now.

Windshields don't last forever

I agree. I try to replace my windshields in the Autumn because the chips in the glass are most distracting when driving in low light conditions. Of course, the probably of getting more chips goes up in the winter, but I like to see when driving at night.

Polishing the glass

I happen to own a orbital buffer. I ordered a glass polishing kit which contained the right abrasives and polishes to really clean up pitted glass. There may be shops that do this too. Ripping out my windshield is not my idea of correction. But that’s me. Good luck.
For me, this system worked great.

I had the same problem. It’s very tiny pits. I had the insurance replace it with an OEM Mini windshield. 100% covered no deductible.

Yep, rocks. Does not take long with the MINIs upright windshield.

I've had my 2013 Clubman for two and a half years and have replaced the windshield twice due to chips and cracks.
Last windshield change I asked the guy how common windshield replacement was and apparently Phoenix is one of the worst cities. There are over 1300 windshield repair/replacement shops in a metropolitan area of 4.5 million people. The highest in the country.

Yep I see tons of chipped and cracked windshields here in Phoenix in my job (insurance field adjuster) way more than I used to see in the Portland area. Go figure they cruise at 80+ on the freeways 1 or 2 car lengths apart.
