09 R55 Back Up Camera

Well after having a back up camera and pretty much every vehicle I’ve owned lately whether it be FACTORY installed or I installed it could not stand not having one in the Clubman.

I was able to locate a small 3 1/2 inch monitor from Amazon along with a angle adjustable flush mount camera which installs right below the driver side handle which by the way is completely hollow below the handle nothing in the way.

Amazon Amazon
Monitor

Amazon Amazon
Camera

Worked out perfectly.

Very nice. I have them on my trucks from the factory. Thought I wanted one because as you pointed out, you get use to having them and rely on them. It' been a long time since I've driven anything other than a big truck. Because these are so tiny and have great turning radius, I decided against one. But I am fixing to wire up my Connex CB for road trips. Better than a radar detector on the open roads, useful, and entertaining too.

Speaking of radar detectors, why hasn't anyone (that I am aware of) blended a radar detector with a Garmin or equivalent? I would love to have that on my phone. Stuff like "Slow the frick down, there's a cop around the corner!" would be golden!

And that is a clever way to hook up a back up camera in a Clubman. If I showed this thread to my wife, I would be installing one too..

This is a very clean install/mod. Nice. How did you attach the screen to the overhead?

Just trimmed out the little vents to match the mount bracket that came with the screen and glued it in place.

One note you will need to add a relay to feed direct power from the battery and use the back up light as a trigger. Otherwise the canbus checking the backup lamp will burn out the camera. Learned that after I went thru 2 cameras.

Escort made one. It wasn’t a bad unit but didn’t sell well.

This is an old Thread but how did you do the wiring? I have tried to do it, but the screen shows the picture for a moment, it's all wavy, then blanks out. I'm guessing it's because the power is coming from the lamp control module and it's not a steady signal.

This comment makes me suspect you're right and your power is coming from the lamp control while its testing, not triggered from the reverse lamp wire. Maybe adding a relay would be good way to get clean power triggered from the reverse light?

Does the screen interfere with the Bluetooth microphone (I assume that's what is in the little vents where the screen is mounted). I'd like to have this on my Clubman but was thinking of mounting the camera up near the 3rd brake light so my bike rack doesn't block it. I had to remove the parking sensor feed since they go off constantly when my rack is on.
