R55 clutch replacement info.
clutch replacement info.
So I went ahead and replaced the clutch in my 2008 mini clubman (non s), since it was considering slipping when shifting up steep hills. After getting the clutch out, it was very evident it was time for it to be replaced.
Anyways, if you are needing to replace a clutch and are the type that does things yourself, I would like to articulate that the Valeo Clutch with manufacturer part number 52001203 is exactly the same as the factory clutch, which is specified by the bmw mini part number 21 20 7 572 842. You can save a lot of money by doing a search for the valeo part number instead the bmw mini part number. The clutches were identical, and even had the same valeo info on them when set down side by side.
Also, for anyone doing a clutch replacement, it does take a solid days work, but it can be done. Furthermore it can be done without removing the subframe or draining and removing any parts of the coolant system. However, you do have to loosen the subframe, and let it drop down slightly with the bolts removed on the car's transmission side. Also you have to unbolt the radiator support and pull the front of the car forward slightly. The advantage you get from not removing these is the simple fact that stuff breaks when taken apart. Such as plastic that snaps together, or tie rod ends that strip when you try to dissemble them peacefully. If stuff would come apart peacefully I would say take it all apart, but my experience reveals that the more you take apart, the bigger the mess and cost. Especially when stuff is made out of plastic and breaks when looked at with an inquisitive glare.
Again Valeo 52001203 is completely identical to Bmw Mini 21-20-7-572-842. I hope this saves some people some money.
