Heated Seats Question - 2009 fJCW

When I bought my Land Rover it was owned by BMW and all vehicles, regardless of the options, had the same wiring harness. Mine had leather seats but not heated. Turns out they had elements in all the leather seats (was cheaper to just build them all the same) so all I had to do was plug them in, add the switches (harness had connectors already) and install the relay - voila, heated seats for about $75!!

Any chance a 2009 Clubbie with leather but no heated seats is the same? Could I just change the dash piece with the switches and plug a few things in, or are the seats built specifically with or without the heating elements in them?

Looking at a JCW Clubbie with the black Lounge but no heaters.

Greg

Look under your seats for the seat heater control box. The first gen had the control box somewhere in the car and had heating element wires going to the seats. The second gen seats had the controller attached to the seat and had power, ground, and the switch wires going to the seats. The controller is about the size of a deck of cards.

So if those are under the seats then the seats have the elements in them, correct? That means adding switches and possibly relays and I would have working heated seats?

I think the R56 seats are heated if they have the controllers attached to the seat. This is how my heated R56 seats came. The relays might already be part of the seat module and the wiring harness might already be installed in your Clubman and you just need the console switches.

I have an R53 which had heated seats. The wiring at the seats was fairly thin gauge, without power and ground, only a wiring connector for the heating elements. I replaced the seats with the R56 seats which have the control modules attached. Because I need to figure out the wiring difference between generations, I haven't wired the heaters for the new seats yet.
