2008 Clubman Clicking and brake lights won't go out.

My Clubman is making a clicking/buzzing noise as if the battery is to low to crank the car but when I take the key out of the ignition there is a clicking/buzzing sound coming from the fuse box in the passenger side kick panel and my brake lights stay on after key has been removed. If i put the key back in and out a few times the light will eventually go off. Today it was a different story. The battery seemed to be drained because of the brake lights staying on. So when I asked my friend for a jump i thought it would help the situation but it did nothing. The car made the clicking/buzz noise then the started would kick out but nothing else. The motor does not turn at all. I drove it to the location not an hour before.
I took a close look at the fuse box to see which fuse was it that was buzzing and the white thing at the top of the fuse box is what is making the sound anybody know what part this is? It's the white thing at the top of the fusebox.

So, do I need to replace the entire box? What is the cost? How hard is it for a shade tree mechanic to accomplish you think? Thanks for replying!!

I would check the module for moisture damage first, do you have a sunroof ? has your floor ever been wet after a hard rain ?

ClubmanAssault May 25, 2016 08:56 AM

I do have a sunroof but my floor has never been wet for as long as I have had the car. How do I get back there and check? should I use a swab and poke it back in there to see if I get moisture on it?

ClubmanAssault May 25, 2016 08:57 AM

Would that explain the brake lights staying on after I pull the key out?

ECSTuning May 25, 2016 09:04 AM

Something is messed up in the fuse box or footwell module. If you have a drip down affect from the sunroof , that would explain it.

Only other thing is the brake switch sticking on the brake pedal under the dash on the pedal arm.

Yeah, I thought that too but the brake lights flicker when the fuse box is buzzing and clicking. So, it has to be the box. I need to get that kick panel off and look in there more in-depth. If I find moisture what is the fix for it if its coming from the sunroof

Check the drain tubes for the sunroof.

Hello guys,

I am new here and I am having the exact same issue as the original poster did. I have a 2008 clubman s. Loud clicking noise from the passenger fuse box also lights flash on and off. Did anyone find the solution to this? Thank you!

I have a 2008 S with the same issue. Thought it may have been loose electrical connection. Disconnected neg battery terminal, cleaned it, and reinstalled. Clicking went away for about a week. I suspect it wasn't a dirty/corroded terminal and the act of disconnecting the battery just reset the electrical. Will try more thorough diagnostic from here and report back.
