My JCW's Startup Gurgle

Why is it that for the first 30 seconds to a minute my car has this amazing throaty gurgle on startup and then it dies off? What can I do to the tune so that it always idle with that raunchy gurgle. It's my favorite part. Or is it basically spitting ALOT of fuel in that mode... which would be a waste in the long run.

If I'm not mistaken, what you're listening to is the cold startup procedure which leaves the wastegate open for 30 seconds to a minute in order to warm up the catalytic converter. I know some tunes such as the Manic can remove the cold startup to keep noise down if you have a catless downpipe, but I don't think you'd want to keep the wastegate open in normal operation.

That is some very cool insight. It would be very cool if my wastegate would stay open anytime I'm idling, but probably not beneficial to takeoff.

Thanks for the info!!

My JCW does the same thing at start up, its loud then get quiet. Yea believe its the wastegate.

It is the wastegate. You can watch the wastegate actuator open and close during this operation.
