Changed my oil now there's a leak.
 

What the heck did I do?

Since owning my '09 Clubman S, I've changed the oil twice now. First time, no issues using Castrol Edge 0w-40.

This time around I decided to try Royal Purple 5w-30. Everything seemed to go fine but now I smell burning oil from the engine bay every time I drive. It smells like its the drivers side and you can also smell it if you stick your nose near the hood scoop.

I park over a clean piece of cardboard and see no leaks whatsoever. I've double checked the drain plug and it's bone dry.

My only guess is its leaking near where the filter goes on top of the trans. But I know I placed the new oil ring (yes, I rubbed oil on it first) in the correct gap in the housing and its tightened down snug. I even double checked that.

I mean another leak could have sprung up but I've never had a leak of any kind in this car and now I do since changing the oil. Too much of a coincidence. I've boned something. Thoughts?

Check the oil feel line to the turbo. That would be my guess. I doubt it relates to your most recent oil change.

Hmmm. It would be a huge coincidence if it was.

Where does it connect? Is it near where I could have disturbed something during the OC?

I haven't gotten my Bentley yet.

I don't believe you would have disturbed it doing your oil change. A leaking turbo oil feed line is not an uncommon failure. I'm not saying that is it, just to look.

Put your hand under the filter housing, is it dry or wet with oil?

Try taking the oil filter housing off and check the O-ring, it may not have gone on straight.

This was arguably the first car I've owned where I've not had some sort of oil leak or another and I want to keep it that way!
