Driver's side barn door finally opened
 

First of all the pictures posted by people trying to be helpful are not in the proper horizontal orientation so it took me a long time to figure out how to fix this sucker but now I have finally succeeded without going to the dealership. I will post a better write up of the procedure with better photos soon. Thanks to member CooperClubman for all his help. No I didn't have to resort to dynamite.
