well its been a good 6 yrs with the mini clubman. bought it new, drove the crap out of it. did good gas, scheduled maintain, better than requested oil changes @ 4k.

103k miles. no rattles, everything work except the motor. interior clean.

time chain/waterpump/carbon clean = $5k at the dealer, $3k at a good indy shop.

i cant justify dumping $3k into this motor. knowing ill be here in another 100k.

i think i am done with minis. i wish i could put a small block in it.

im not mad...just disappointed.

what are my options?

If all it takes is $3,000 to get it running again for another 100,000 miles I'd say go for it. We love our Clubman and if I could get another one for only $3,000 I'd go for it.

Your timing chain isn't covered under the recall/bulletin/whatever?

What broke in the motor? If it's mechanical failure, it could be more than $3k, I'm sorry to say. I understand your pain. I have a customer in the shop right now that did everything right and has a motor that's toast to show for it at 75k miles. No love from MINI. He bought an Audi.

Apparently my 2008 is not in recall range. ....but after spending 900 on new shocks. I'm going to keep the money pit and dump 6k in to getting everything right again. All the new cars are expensive as hell and this bucket is paid off!

So you're having a dealer do all the work?

if it only takes 3k to get it on the road again and you say there are not other clear issues that need addressed, if still like the car then 3k for another 100k is damn good deal.

Does anyone know the cost to put in a new motor in his 2008 Clubman S ?

103k miles on a highly stressed 1.6L turbo with purposely insufficient cooling, etc. that's pretty good! This ain't no Camry engine so it's not gonna go to 300k on oil changes and water pumps alone. If 3k fixes it and the rest is sound that's a steal. Considering changing just the turbo is $1000+ for parts only.

Haha do they think the Audi is going to be more reliable? These engines are built to break at 50-75k miles. Hence the length of the factory warranty.

We just dropped $3400 on a 2006 MCS w/130k miles without batting an eye.

Car is going to my adult daughter (23) and I fully expect her to get another 100k out of it.

When you own the car outright you should still be budgeting about $200 per month for maintenance anyway, less if you can do the work yourself. Most years you won't go near that amount, which only makes up for the years you do.

You seem to have issues...

Sorry to hear about your Clubby. Think carefully about a second wind. It's probably the way to go. Give it a few weeks of car pondering.
