Stupid wiper question but I need to know....

Since I've had the car the front wiper on the passenger side does not completely touch the window, so that when the wipers are on the top 1/4 of the wiper blade does not fully touch the window until it is about 6" up. This sounds weird I know, basically in the picture the area in the red circle does not actually get cleaned, it only starts cleaning once it's above the circle. Does anyone else's car do this?

yep. mine's about three inches at the end of the wiper. I am hoping they will replace under warranty, since wipers are covered, at first service. I will ask them to replace it with a drivers side arm cause it is slightly shorter. That will help. Don't know if they will change it. They could site some liability/ it wasnt designed for that mumbo jumbo. It seems to me the curve of the glass at that extreme edge is to blame and the wiper bend does not conform to it. Anyone else?

Do you have the updated wipers ( aero version ) or the standard ones? What moth production. You pic shows the older version pre 7/2012

The aero ones do show a little less of a lift off the window on the right. Production 7/2012 on.

Kit to convert pre 7/2012 to Aero Kit.

Possible that could help, base on above. Thanks.

Standard wiper blades R50 - R57 models Up to production 7/2012.

ha ha. I wondered why the pic did not resemble your sig line.

Mine are aero too. Built nov dec 2012.

IMHO the issue is that in that lower corner of the windscreen the glass has a significant enough curvature that the wiper can not wrap around it. Seems they need either a more flexible wiper or a shorter one. In running a drivers side wiper on the pass side, we would not give up much coverage at all and it may help it to lay down.

We'll see what the dealer says and what MINI may have done about it already.

i spoke to the tech today and he confirmed that this is the way it's supposed to be. he also thinks it's stupid and suspects that mini will come out with a new design soon as so many people are complaining.

on a side note, they told me i basically have to wait for my clutch to blow up before they'll fix it. i love dealerships

If you have flat-blade wipers and they don't wipe that bit of the screen, get used to it. The alternative is to go back to old-fashioned multi-part wiper blades and they don't clean the upright screen of the Mini at high speeds - they are dangerous.

Do you or your passenger actually look out of that bit of the screen?

no, but that's not the point. mini designed a system with a pretty freaking obvious flaw and they deemed this okay to put into production. they designed wiper blades so that they don't actually contact the windshield the entire time......wtf is that? mini wants to be a premium luxury brand and they expect us to pay for that, but then take short cuts that wouldn't be acceptable on a kia. that's not okay.

PSICHICK-like! Right on. It is poor design/execution and its obvious the problem as well as the potential fix. Not acceptable in the modern era of auto manufacture
