Any justa owners hit 600 miles in a tank?
Before I got my MINI, I had been reading TDiClub forums for a while and was gonig to get a passat Diesel 05-06 because of the amazing range and MPGs they get. They routinely had threads going about the 600+ mile club, some hitting 900 and 1000 miles on a tank.
I have been topping out at 42mpg and 585 miles on my tank and got me to thinking, WE NEED A THREAD LIKE THIS!
Have you hit 600+ miles in a tank? if so, how?
My 585 came with lucky drafting, very little traffic / around town miles and highway speeds at 69mph on cruise.
Lately since its getting cold up here in VT im lucky to hit 570 miles.
I want my extra mpg or two!

It's fairly easy to achieve 600 miles on a tank so long as you live on a low incline mountain below sea level with the car in idling neutral. lol
Frankly I don't see any stock Mini getting those kinda miles per tank. 400 miles per tank is stretching it even in normal highway driving but I do have an S not a Justa!

i had to make a "gofer" parts run for work in my 2012 cms all4
i filled the tank at a station less than 1 block from the i-state on ramp, drove 411 miles roundtrip at 55 mph, on cruise the whole way, at night, no/light traffic, except at the turnaround point (met another guy at a park-n-ride)
filled up at the same station, just off the off ramp
9.8 gals for 411 miles = 41.9 mpg, the OBC was showing 104 miles til empty when i filled up, giving a range of 515 mile in theory!
also 41.9 * 12.3 = 515.4 miles
not bad for a cms all4

This is driving like grand,grand....grandma for me, I guess 600+ are entirely possible on S cars if driving like this. Im usually trying to restrain myself from going above 80.

had just activated sat radio the day before, so that also provided some entertainment
at the time, i thought i would go for a real 500 mile tank, but it was so boring i just settle for 400+ miles at a more exciting pace

My problem is I can't bring my self to drive that slow. I always fine my self cruzing at 80 to 85 and this kills my milage so breaking 400 is difficult. The best MPG I have seen is about 36 and thats all highway more typical is 30 to 32. Also we don't see much difference between the Clubman S and the JCW.
With my Cooper Clubman ( manual ) I get between 475 - 525 per tank pretty easy ( that includes club runs w mph over 90 ), I haven't tried to push it to the max - but a 600 mile tank may be possible. Even on MTTS I was averaging over 40mpg - it was 100% interstate but the speeds were very high ( keeping up with some of the people ).
My S clubman is lucky to get 400 miles per tank - no way it would ever come close to the 600 mile mark on a single tank - even if I did drive it like a grandma.

While I generally average around 800 kilometres (500 miles) to a tank on the highway, I have recorded a few days at 1000+ kilometres (620+ miles). Mostly, these were long drives on secondary highways where the speed limit was 80kph (50mph) and where traffic or conditions kept me pretty much at or below the posted limits.
According to the computer, my average consumption was something like 4.9 litres/100 kilometres, while the Transport Canada specs say the car is rated for 5.3 litres/100km, so I guess I was doing pretty well.
I can easily do the conversion from kilometres to miles, but trying to convert litres/100km to US mpg is not something I can do in my head. I once looked up the conversion rate from litres/100km to Imperial mpg, but I've long since forgotten the values to be used. I'm leaving that as an exercise for the motivated student. <g>

The conversion formula is:
mpg = (100 * lpg) / (kmpm * lp100km)
definitions
mpg = miles per gallon
lp100km = liters per 100 km
lpg = liters per gallon (US) = 3.785411784
kmpm = kilometers per mile = 1.609344
4.9l per 100/Kilometers = 48 mpg
This is great milage

I just went about 580 on this tank... im on fuelly.com with the same user name, check it out! 41.5mpg this tank. I did fill up with 5 miles to go and no dashes left on the "fuel gauge"
It would be helpful if everyone could tell us how fast you were driving when they get these milage outliers - I'm happy when I bust 400 miles on a tank. I suspect this has a big impact on the range of the car. Also, shipjumper is you MINI and Justa or a MCS - 580 miles is amazing.
I have had 2-3 tanks over 500 miles. I was driving my S, automatic on the highway through the night at 70-75 with stops to stretch/pee every hr or two. I was really surprised as my R56 never got 400 miles to a tank and I could get 500 petty easily, backing down to 60-65 I would think 600 would be close on a S model, but obtainable on a justa, especially a stick.
my work is 50.5 miles door to door with 8.5 of it not highway... on the highway i have my cruise set at 68. 70 was getting me 40mpg and I dont want to go 65... 68 is a nice balance of passing and getting passed..
WOW someone with a longer commute than me. 38 miles door to door here.
623 on a tank. Just one time, and I'm pretty sure it was a very close call. Cross country trip on back roads... very flat country with no wind, speeds 55 or less, little or no traffic, very gentle on the gas and lots of coasting before stop signs and lights. I had added a bit 'extra' at the previous fill up, just a few 10ths of a gallon after the manual fuel cutoff said the tank was full. I probably won't do it again, but it was fun (and more than a bit nerve wracking) to pass the 600 mile per tank mark. I was counting on my AAA membership to get me out of trouble if I had miscalculated
Fortunately, a Shell station appeared at the perfect moment, and all was well.
