The annoying "what's it worth?" question...

...but I'm gonna ask anyway! So today we were out driving around looking at small crossovers for my partner, and I ran across a car I didn't expect to see. We saw a white Clubman sitting in the distance and low and behold, it's a JCW! A 2009 PW JCW Clubman with 41k mi to be precise. It was raining so hard when we saw it test driving was out of the question. But, I know it's a 6MT with premium, cold weather, convenience, and HIDs. Not sure what other options it has but it seems pretty well equipped. It has had two owners in its life. I've been toying around with the idea of getting back into a MINI, I used to have an R56 Cooper S, now drove a 328i coupe which is a blast and super sexy but honestly I'm just not sure it's "me" if that makes sense (sometimes I feel like a douche driving it, and since I look relatively young or at least so I've been told I tend to inspire too many stop light drag races in it). So I've thought about looking into a Countryman S, but to be honest after having a Cooper S I'd be really worried about the performance trade off. I do need something with more room than the typical Cooper though. I've never really considered a JCW because new, they're just a bit more money than I can justify for a MINI (no offense).

If I was interested in getting this Clubman, would I be insane for passing it up at a current asking price of $21,888? I saw a thread just below here about poor Clubman resale so could that be an excuse to go even lower?

Thanks for any input. If you want to see the car I'm considering I think this link will get you there: http://caldwell-toyota.com/Conway-Ar...e-Car/9726509/

I would buy it if I was still looking for one. I have a Clubman S and love it - but would love a JCW Clubman even more.

At 21K it seems like a steal to me. I would buy that in a heart-beat.

It's not a bad price, if you can get in the 20-21k range I would do the deal.
For a comparo, I am getting a '09 Clubman S CPO (100k warranty), auto, auto AC, sunroof, not much else in way of options with 25k miles for $20k and I think it is a fair deal. I wanted low miles so it fits me...you are intrigued by a JCW, so give it a test drive and see what they will do in way of numbers.

Thanks for the responses. I've been bitten in the arse by hindsight in the past, and you guys have the benefit of foresight that I didn't want to pass up. I'll try to get by and test drive it today.

I bought my 2009 Clubman S with 26k miles nearly 4 months ago for $21,500. I'd say the asking price is fair, but, that doesn't mean you can't try to haggle a bit!

I've got a 2011 Clubman S, and my dealer recently offered me $25K for it, so that sounds like a good price for a JCW Clubman. The car you're looking at also appears to have the factory aero kit. Good luck!

Back in May I bought a 2009 Clubman JWC with 29K miles and just love the car. It's our 2nd Clubman as I had bought a 2009 S with 16K miles for $22K including the CPO warranty for my daughter about 18 months ago - it is a 6 speed MT with almost every option except Nav. Her first car and she loves it. There is no question the JWC is noticeable upgrade to the S. The brakes alone are worth the upgrade - they are the best I have ever seen on any car and my other car is a Porsche Boxster S. All I will say about the engine is hold on to the steering wheel with both hands when you punch it in 1st or 2nd - it makes me laugh every time I do it.

I paid $20.5 for my JWC from a private owner - a fellow NAM member - great guy who clearly loved the car. My JWC is fairly well equipped as it has the factory navigation option (my minimum requirement) as well as the premium package, Xenon's and a bunch of other smaller options. The car does not have the cold weather package (original LA area Car) or a leather interior. Of these two I wish I had the heated seats, I actually like the base interior.

In any configuration I think the Clubman is a wonderful car - comfortable and with more room than the standard MINI. It's a ball to drive - but you know that - and the JWC Clubman is a rare bird which I appreciate. Now that I am a Clubman owner I notice how uncommon they are and I don't think I have ever seen another JWC Clubman in the flesh.

Personally, I love the PW color - I actually think it's my favorite color - mine is dark silver and black. If the car is in good condition and it meets your needs I would grab it because just finding a JWC clubman isn't easy finding one in PW is dam close to impossible.

Best of luck what ever you decide
