Help! Water Intrusion! Bottom of boot has a puddle!

I discovered a large puddle of water under the Styrofoam jack holder in the bottom on the boot. That’s right, standing water on the sheet metal!

Has this happened to anyone before? How the hell did it get there?

I can't figure it out -- the carpet and surrounding plastic is bone dry.

It's happened twice now.

Very confused,

Lucas.

I'm not sure but it could be your sunroof seal. Mine leaked in and around the interior body panels so it was undiscovered until it filled my battery compartment and fried it. Actually it corrupted the main power cable which has an exploding link (this = $$$). You should have seen what my dash did when I tried turning over the motor...so many lights on the dash it was magical. If your's has a sunk battery in the boot, be sure to check this area. They had to, not only take out my headliner, but the entire flooring and seats to replace the cable.

Seems plausible, but I can't believe the carpets and headliner aren't wet too.

Thanks for the tip!

I just had the exact same thing happen. The dealer checked the sun roof drain and cleaned it out but said it looked fine but cleaned it anyway. I made sure to really slam the rear doors when I closed them and it rained the next day, no water at all.
I think maybe you just have to pay attention to how you close the rear doors.

Now that you mention it, I've experienced my hatch not closing entirely but I get the dash light that tells me so. I suppose if you came home and took stuff out of the hatch/barn doors and did not close it properly you could get some rain in there.

I found water (a couple of cups worth) in the well where the spare wheel would go if there were one, after the car sat outside in "substantial" rains associated with Hurricane Irene last month. I've had this car for only a month; it's still under warranty. I took it back to the dealer I bought it from and they said they readjusted the seals (not sure just what that means). After the next rain I found a little water in the well. Nothing else in/around the rear interior was damp, except for a very slight dampness on a bit of the carpeting just inside the right rear door, right next to the plastic strip on the sill. Took it back again and they said they tightened up the seals and tested with a pressure wash hose. My test at home with garden hose revealed no more leaking. We'll see....

Had the same issue and then realized I had several bags of ice in back for a short time. Even though there was plastic underneath, suspect there was a pinhole leak or maybe some water sloshed out on one or two of the tighter corners...
