Can check out this thread here for some useful tips while you go at the job. Some people just remove the thermostat. Good luck.

Ahhhh Haaaa!!!! That's exactly how my thermostat came out. With the ends missing, I actually found one piece in the block, Ugh, Thanks for the heads up Mate! I'm on it!

Did that thermostat recently at 56k miles. Also, the valve cover is wet of oil on top but not dripping anywhere. Installing the N18 mod to block the passenger side PCV and installing the BSH catch can kit on the drivers side. It should minimize oil leaks and carbon buildup on intake.
