I Give Up! How do you use the Cargo Net in the Clubman???

I think we all got a cargo net with our Clubman and I see that it has 4 hooks, and that there are 4 stainless steel loops on the sides of the rear cargo area. But once I have them hooked up, I can not see how I would ever be able to use this net for anything. It is tight against the floor.

I know a 8 year old could probably figure this out, but I don't happen to have one around who can explain it to me.

I already feel stoopid asking this question, so don't hold back.

It is basically just to keep SMALL things from moving around. I use it under the floor to keep the dogs lease and some other small item from floating around. It really is not big enough to hold much though.

It stretches so put whatever you need to carry under it. The tightness will hold it in place. It works well for holding a six pack so it doesnt slide all over the trunk

Why would anyone ever put the six-pack way back there? You can't get to it while your driving. I prefer to keep three cans in the air conditioned glove box and the other three on the floor in front of me so the kids won't drink them again. (just kidding!)

....any other suggestions for a GOOD use for the net?

Recipe for delicious Asian dinner and non-smelly Clubman: hook 2 hooks of cargo net to right hand side loops- insert Thai food takeout to right of boot-space - stretch net over Thai food and hook to the same two loops on right hand side.

OK! That makes sense! That has to be how they intended it be used.

A few days ago I came out to the car with several bags of food and was afraid that the net would crush the food when it was stretched across the entire cargo area. This makes sense now.

Well if the kids get into your drinks again....the cargo net makes for a good child restraint apparatus as well.

The side nets are pretty handy too! I stick all kinds of things in the side nets -- which, by the way also have a nifty opening to put stuff IN the net. The only problem with the bottom net is when it's stretched and hooked, it won't let you stick things close and pack efficiently on TOP of it...ah well. "Buggers" can't be choosers, especially LAZY buggers like me!

X uh oh X, I assume you have the coupe, right?
I saw the nets MINI puts in the rear of the coupes and think they are great. I was disappointed with the design of the Clubman net since it does not have the "pockets" like yours.

Plus I think you have higher and lower hooks to use with the net, right? On the clubman, there are only the lower hooks (but there is a coat hook on one side....I haven't quite figured that one out yet.

Oh nuts! I didn't realize I'd strayed into "the Clubman Zone!" Sorry, yes, I have the MCS.

Higher and lower? I have triangular shaped nets for the sides - they hook at the bottom of the boot and one loop that hooks on the sidewall near where the back window meets the solid hatch door. But the bottom net only has four metal loops to hook the net... (Am I just being blonde? -- This would be funnier if you knew I have black hair...)

I think that the main purpose of the net is too keep things from flying around when cornering or braking hard.

For carrying groceries in the Coupe, I like the nylon boot box. Not sure how well it fits the Clubman.

The net stretches a lot. I have used it to keep a 38lb. Greenspeed folded recumbent trike in one place.

That fold out hook on the passenger side is great for hooking up grocery bags. I get three or four on there.

If anyone is worried about the strength of the 4 hook points....don't worry, they are INCREDIBLY stable. I took out the interior panels of my clubman and was astounded at how much re-enforcement they put into those mounting points and heavy-duty hardware.

Yeah, there was also the boot box in my clubman on delivery. I haven't really had a chance to mess with it, but it might be a good thing to use back there.

Does that boot box come standard in the Clubmans? I think I've heard that before, but I'm not sure. That would be really nice!

I think so, but I'm not sure. It could have been added by my MA as a gift. But since it was in the tire storage area and he didn't say it was from the dealer, I think it was standard equipment for the Clubman.

My Clubman came with the boot box. I took it out this morning just to look at it. I think it's standard because I bought through the fleet guy at the dealership and he was not at all interested in comping me anything. If you don't get one, you may want to check back with the dealer. I also thing the manual makes reference to it as though it's standard.

I got the boot box, too. It may be standard -- my MA didn't say.

It works better if you fill it. If I have just one bag, I just hook it or use the net. These are early opinions -- I've only done each thing once so far.

This has gone from net talk to boot box talk. It's all under the category of an older thread I once posted on, referred to as 'Mysteries behind the rear seat', or some such.
I wanted to add that I have found the folding MINI box to be very useful, and it gets stored in its flattened form, and held under the cargo net, smooth side up, since I can't re-snap it flattened.
I have tried the cargo net both above and below the main floor level in back, since there are hooks at both levels. It works best below the floor in general, since it doesn't interfere with lifting the floor panel quickly. I keep my dog's spare water bowl and a few rattling accessories under it.
BTW, I also use the 'sub-basement' (spare tire chamber) for holding a blanket and a first aid kit.

ok that had me . Hmm cold beer, I could use a few today it's gonna be hooottttt and humid today.
Will a kid fit in the net? I'm thinking I a don't want my 3 yr old daughter getting the back of my seats dirty.
My kids are just as excited as me about the arrival of my still to be named Clubbie. My son wants to check the owners lounge daily on the status.
