I'm not sure I understand this. None have theoretically been delivered to owners yet, so I'm assuming the car is not yet in your possession.

It would seem easier to just turn down the car and order another, since you don't yet own it as opposed to the hassle of buying it and selling it again. I'm sure the dealer won't mind.

It makes me think there are 2000 other reasons for doing it this way....

Yes, I'm attempting to scalp my new MINI. I've heard of actual dealers doing it, so I figured I'd give it a try. However, the sob story is true, and the $2,000 would be for my pain and suffering.

Its supply and demand. Wife story may or may not be true---but if I was in the position he says he is in, I'd get rid of it at any cost and as fast as possible.

My marriage is worth more than 10% of my Mini. And now we know who wears the pants.

Heh, I've seen people doing this with the new Smart Fortwo's on Ebay, except they're taking a $14-18k car and turning it into a $25-30k car. What was it PT Barnum said? But hey, if someone is just dying to have a Clubman not configured to his/her particular specifications yet still pay $2k more for it and can't wait the couple of months to get it, I'm sure they'd jump on this.

If it were my marital issue, I'd let the dealer keep the car and reorder. The marital issue should trump all else. By asking for 2000 pain and suffering one is basically saying that my marital status is more important than my car, but not more important than my car + $2000. Doesn't seem to pass the giggle test.

Keep up this attitude and you'll have a much larger bill than $2000. I know a good friend of mine just met future ex wife no. 3.

On the other hand, if someone is dumb enough to pay it....

Still thinking about this topic...I've started to side with Tim.

Consider each hour that you have obsessed about your Mini, from the time you spec'd it, ordered it, watched it be constructed in Oxford, moved to Southampton, waited at the docks (forever), was scheduled on a boat--then rescheduled--then rescheduled--finally taking a boat across the Atlantic (and maybe Pacific--he is in Maine so Atlantic applies), clear customs, arrive at the dealer, close the transaction and pick it up.

In this light, IMHO, he should be asking for at least $4000 over MSRP....

Thanks Jeremy. I was afraid this might be controversial, and it is. So, I'm going to delete the original post. I'll just tell my MA to give it to some lucky person who won't have to wait, and we'll order another one (Hot Chocolate) together.

Should the NAM forums really support scalping? It's fine with me if you want to do this on ebay or craigslist, but please please please not here!

Any forum I truly belong to I sell things for less than I post on ebay, for brotherhood reasons. Now on ebay gloves are off as deals go both ways (too high and too cheap) there. I remember all the Xbox and PS3 stories, though for the few that sold high a number of people didn't (but won't admit it).

Edited, withdrawn as he deleted his post.

The people that are saying "scalping" when I asked about how much to pay for my new MINI I was told to feel lucky to get MSRP. Kind of hypocritical dont ya think?

Scalping MINIs kinda a funny concept . I have the pleasure of seeing all the new cars and driving them before they hit American roads. The Clubman is nice, but not really sporty its kinda (too me anyways) well more like a family car. Im trying to figure out what the allure is? If thats why you by them then its perfect. Even the new 1 series people talk about is not as fun as my Cooper S. Getting back to topic, I think its funny, but shameful ....scalper.

Wow, I guess we have alot of dealers in the "scalper" column. If he did buy then resell, there is a little thing called tax to contend with...

No, I wouldn't have had to deal with tax in my state, because that doesn't get paid until the vehicle is registered.
