The Top Gear's Ugliest car of 2008 is?

The MINI Clubman!!! :eek2:

i want to hear what everyone want to say, to me, beauty is to the eye of the beholder, and sides, i never take clarkson's opinion as truth, rather as entertainment

Electron_Mike Dec 24, 2007 07:15 AM

I don't think the clubman is ugly. Actually, it's grown on me quite a bit recently. And like you, I think Clarkson's opinion on such things is purely entertainment

jakay11 Dec 24, 2007 07:17 AM

Probably has something to do with Clarkson's critique

I'm not really familiar with this Clarkson "bloke" but he seems to be one of those "entertainers" who gets paid to be rude and opinionated to generate buzz and controversy.

He is very entertaining and very opinionated but that doesn't make him wrong. It makes him entertaining and opinionated.

I may not agree with him and how could I? I've never driven the car. However, he's driven a lot more cars than I have or any of us has and, oh yeah, he does get paid for it.

Clarkson is one of the 3 hosts of Top Gear...

tazio Dec 24, 2007 08:50 AM

How about the Stig in Fittipaldi's Lotus? That was the high point of the show, imo.

mininutz Dec 24, 2007 08:50 AM

Personally, I don't understand this trend towards greater size. MINIs are supposed to be getting smaller, not larger... The Clubman, to me, is a perversion of the whole MINI ethos, so I have to agree... definitely ugly.

Ok, Ebenezer Scrooge.

mininutz Dec 24, 2007 09:37 AM

You know, you're not the first person to notice my descent into miserliness (my wife was actually the first, right before she left, muttering something about how my ego is now almost as large as a 2007 MINI).

Humbug, indeed.

Could NOT agree more. The Clubman soils the MINI name, IMO. It appears to be the bastard child of a MINI and a stretch limo.

Can't wait for the MINI SUV.

Have to say I enjoy his style. I like Ezra Dyer better, but this guy's good, too:

" Unfortunately, after a week, I have decided it’s one of the worst cars in the world. About as desirable as a packet of dung or a can of worms. Truthfully? I’d rather have a goat."

I like the Clubman...it's hard to say it's ugly when it's appearance is so much like the rest of the MINI family. Of course, w/ Clarkson the pendulum tends to swing toward extremes...that's just how he's developed a lucrative career. However, this time I think he's bonkers. In any case, the Clubman is so resonant of the 2005 concept cars it's hard to believe anybody is the least bit shocked over the Clubman's appearance. Overall...I'm thrilled. And yes, I love the contrasting c-pillars, too.

bobsyouruncle Dec 24, 2007 10:12 AM

I'm afraid he's right about the Clubman being ugly. But hardly a first place ug-fest winner. If it's any consolation to the faithful, most of what GM turns out is far uglier!

CR&PW&JB Dec 24, 2007 10:13 AM

Yeah... good point. As much an abomination as it is to the MINI name, there are many cars out there that are much, MUCH uglier. Many.

Have to agree with you and Mininutz. SUV and Clubman. NEIN!

But, ugliest car? That can't be right. There's gotta be a GM or Renault out there somewhere that is uglier.

PlayPlay Dec 24, 2007 10:16 AM

lol Bobsyouruncle...jinx

No, I most disagree with this point. What about proportion? You can't just take the face and rear-end and affix them to an ugly elongated middle section. YUCK!

Look, I, like you, live in the veritable cultural wasteland that is Texas, but sometimes, even we Texans have to put our boot down, and say NO Y'ALL! to larger...

Exactly. This guy is the equivilant to John C Dvorak in the technology world. Pure blowhard & everyone knows it. Therefor, his opinions mean jack squat.

I mean really now. Clubman is basically a MINI Cooper but longer & a different back. Its far FAR from the ugliest ride out there.

Unless of course you're one of the crazies who somehow (probably drug-induced) thinks the R56 isn't the prettiest thing on wheels. Sacrilege!
