jcw exhaust (or Borla) won't fit on a Cabrio

From the Morristown Mini Parts section...

John Cooper Works Exhaust MINI Cooper S

The John Cooper Works sport exhaust is the same parallel flow unit, which is included in the John Cooper Works Tuning Kit. The stainless steel exhaust provides a distinctive, very sporty exterior sound and the John Cooper Works branded exhaust tips add a racing look to the car.

NOT FOR MINI COOPER S CONVERTIBLE

Any idea why it will not fit on a Cabrio? I'm not planning on getting one but I have a Borla (looks exactly the same) just waiting and now I'm worried about issues. Are there any? Rgds, Michael

the Cabrio has bracing right across the area where the pipe splits. I had to order the special cabrio version of the MillTek....somewhat dissappointed in the work it takes to get it mounted and sealed properly. MillTek and Stratmosphere were little help. Hint...pound the crap out of the aluminum heatshield to make room for the clamps.

Thanks, hopefully the Borla is one size fits all... They do not list a different part number for the 05 MCS verses the 05 MCSC. I have a slightly used )% coming off an MCS so I'll keep my fingers crossed and remember about the heatshield...

The JCW exhaust does fit the cabrio and the Morristown MINI website must be out of date. The JCW kit is available for the cabrio and it does include an exhaust, and the exhaust is listed as separately available for the cabrio on the JCW website. Actually I've read on MINI2 that the JCW exhaust is now a universal fit for both hardtop and cabrio that includes a flattened section to clear the cabrio frame. There are hardtop owners modding it to replace the flattened section.

right. i've wondered about this too, since my nice '06 MCS has the "pinch" needed to fit the cabrio. can't help but wondering how much restriction this causes needlessly in the hardtop, just to be a convenience for MINI's assembly and parts department..

If its any help I have an 06 cabrio with the JCW works package including the exhaust, so it must fit as its on my car!

This is getting a bit off topic, but here is the very interesting exhaust thread on MINI2, including discussion and photos of the JCW:

Another happy cabrio customer here with JCW exhaust. It is a prime reason that my radio listening time is way down - I love the sound of that thing, especially with the top down.

Now - there is one JCW Component that you CANNOT get for the Cabrio - the Suspension Kit. I tried to get my SA to install it to no avail - the weight and balance of the cabrio is different enough that they don't feel comfortable enough that it is tuned for the cabrio.

Ok got that the JCW fits. Anybody running a Borla exhaust. Any issues with install?

Have you checked with MiniMania or Borla: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=43003
