R52 Roof Recall Issue
Roof Recall Issue
Had my cabrio in for an oil leak last wednesday. While there they applied some sort of Bulletin issue about the roof.
Apparently involved installing a brace that would ensure the roof stayed square as it is retracted and closed.
First I'd heard of it, so thought I'd pass it along.

If you have your service invoice... what is the service number? There are 3 Service bulletins out there related to Cabrio roof wear issues that I've seen (on AllData):
- M540105 - only if customer complains
- M540605 - only if customer complains
- M540705 - to be performed when in for service
Had ours in for minor warranty work about 3 weeks ago. When we picked it up the SA told me they had made an "adjustment" to the roof as part of a service bulletin. No details and I can't tell anything was added or changed since I don't see anything new. We've had our MCC since Nov 2004 and we've never had a problem with the roof anyway.

I had my roof replaced a week ago for wear marks. The adjustment is for the bump stops which hold the roof in the down position. If not adjusted properly they cause the roof to rub when in down position causing the wear marks.
Do you have any pics of what your wear marks looked like when you took it in?
Did you have to argue for the roof replacement or did they just do it?
Curious because mine are pronounced, but I'd assumed I would just have to live with them. Mine was probably in the first 100 delivered to the States so it's certainly showing its age.

No pics. And no arguments. Same as you, I assumed that I would have to live with it. But I complained about it everytime I was at the dealer, just to get it on record. Last time I was there, the finally admitted it (that is about when the TSB became public) and replaced it. Overall it was fairly hassle free.
I also had the top "adjusted" when I took him in at 11K. They told me that this was being done only if someone complained, and I had a slight leak above the passenger's side window. Now, the chrome trim that runs around the MINI is seperated by about and inch where the boot trim ends and the side trim begins.
As an added bonus, the next day after I left the dealership, I noticed a dent behind the driver's side door handle on the body towards the top where the sharp curvature of the body is. It is only a dent with no scratch or paint removal. Unfortunately, I can't prove that they caused it because I didn't notice it until the next day.

I take my Cabrio in tomorrow morning for the roof replacement.
Like Goaljnky, I complained each time I was at the dealership, even got the Service Manager to admit that the "white marks" were actually worn-through places in the fabric (see attached). That was in September and, even though they said they'd ordered me new fabric, it wasn't until 2 weeks ago, when I had an issue with the sunroof not opening on one side, that they told me there was an actual recall. So all our complaining finally paid off!
They did the bump-stop adjustment when I was there 2 weeks ago. I did notice that the top doesn't fold down as tightly (I can fit my finger down between the fabric when the top is down, I couldn't before).
Jerry - did you notice any difference in the space between the fabric and where the sunroof closes up by the antenna? Several people have posted that there seems to be a large gap after the fabric replacement. I'm keeping my eyes open for that and any problems with the chrome not lining up right.

Anyone have any new info regarding this topic?? I have wear marks that seem to be getting worse and worse. Just got my MINI at the end of June pre-loved. I afraid one of the wear marks is actually going to wear a hold in the roof. :(
