roof wear and Towson

Hello everybody,

I am ready to by a MINI cabrio from MINI of Towson and I read about the roof wear problems of the cabrios. I was wondering what MINI of Towson responses have been to this issue? Do you have to fight to get the roof fixed/replaced by them or do they acknowledge that there is a problem and work with you to resolve it?

Thanks,
Erik

Ours is fine..

We bought one of the first '06 cabrios last october and have had the top down at least a hundred times so far and zero signs of roof wear/discoloration on our blue top. I don't know if there's any changes to the '06s vs '05s but ours is fine.

I have one of the first of the '05's and have very minor discoloration on both sides at the first fold. When you wash it or kind of rub it with your hand, it seems to kind of disappear.
I spoke with the service advisor about it and he said they would replace it if it continues to bother me, but advised that I might want to wait awhile until I was close to the end of my warranty and would then get a new top after about 3 years (according to my driving/milage). That sounded like a good idea to me, but it's not yet to the point of any major concern.

Also, just a tip on cleaning the top; I use a 3M lint roller to get off fuzz and lint (even dirt) and it works great.

MINI of Towson replaced my top after a year. It was showing signs of wear on both sides. I have only had the new top down about 5 times so don't know if the fix is right.

Towson

replaced my roof too. Had it down about 20 times since it was replaced and haven't noticed any white marks (knock on wood) It was one of the first 05 cars in the US.

From this TSB it sounds like the problem is addressed in new roofs, so if you're buying new you're ok. If you're buying older, you're ok too
