R52 Transmission concern

I have a 2006 Cooper S Convertible with 119k miles Auto transmission. I notice a little jerk in the transmission when the car shifting from 2nd to 3rd, Another issue I am noticing is when I manually shift the gears and I am in 6th gear and start slowing down the car automatically down shift but never goes to 1st gear even with a complete stop, it stays on 2nd gear, then I manually shift it to 1st gear. My other Mini countryman R60 does down shift to first gear on it's own. Any thoughts, feedback, advise is much appreciated....Thank you

Shifting only to 2nd when stopping and starting in 2nd is normal for the Aisin trans on 1st gen MINI's, and maybe 2nd gen too. I think the non-S CVT's go to 1st.

Has the transmission fluid ever been changed? If not, I would try a fluid and filter change, but it might already be too late at 119k. If you drop the pan for the filter, you can try adjusting the valve body for the shifting issues. https://www.sonnax.com/tech_resources/332-adjusting-clutch-control-valves-on-aisin-fwd-6-speeds
